I am considering reusing part of 1 of my essays for each school for the primary/alternate option (only needs slight tweaking to work) because I'm not very fond of one of my essays. Any ideas if there are 1. separate admission committees for the various cornell schools (arts & sci, engineering etc...) and if so, 2. Does the engineering admissions committee only see your engineering supplement essay and vice versa for the other schools? Once again, I have both done but am curious because one is a good deal better than the other I believe. Let me know! :)

I believe both colleges see both your essays

Yes, applications are reviewed at the college level, but unfortunately, your essays can be read by both colleges. The primary school can choose to read the essay for both. This appeared on an admissions blog but I cannot locate the page.

I have been on this forum for few years, I haven’t heard that many students getting admitted to their second choice after they were turned down by their first. If you were my kid, I would tell you to forget about the second choice and put your best foot forward for the first one. I don’t think your chance is doubled by applying to two schools.

My son is a2nd year student at cornell, and he applied using the alternate school option. He was accepted to the primary choice school. I do not think it hurts a applicant to apply to the primary and then have an alternate school option.
