Ok, so looking at this below (reqs. for Public Health Major):

General Biology 1A (4) (F, SP)*
OR
two courses:
NST 10: Introduction to Human Nutrition (3) (F, SP)
MCB 11: Molecular Biology of Molecules and Man (3) (SP)
MCB 32: Introduction to Human Physiology (3) (F)
MCB 41: Genetics: Genetics and Society (3) (SP)
MCB 50: Immunology: The Immune System and Disease (3) (SP)
MCB 61: Neurobiology: Brain, Mind, and Behavior (3) (SP)
*requires Chemistry 1A (3) (F, SP) and Chemistry 3A and 3B (9) (F, SP)

Does this mean that only Gen. Bio 1A reqs all those chem. prereqs?
So, if I decided to take the two 3 unit courses INSTEAD of Bio 1A, I wouldn't have have to take the chem pre reqs? Am I right?

To this question, the list may just not provide an answer. Your best bet is to look each of them up. If you can find two that don't require the chem (or classes that require the chem or some of the chem, such as Bio 1B), I'm not positive, but would say yes, you aren't required to take the chem. You will get help greater help about this at CalSO. Maybe someone else will post here, but I encourage you to call the undergraduate advisor for the public health program.

Thanks.
The location they placed the asterisk would make you think chem is only required as a prereq for the Bio 1A, but it's not completely clear.

thats correct, tara. you can take the two 3 unit courses instead of bio1a, which requires i believe a year of chemistry. i think the bio1a is intended for people such as premeds, who have already taken their chem classes and have to take bio1a anyway.
