I am an incoming freshman at UCSB and I was asked for additional information/verification for my financial aid application. On one of the required documents that I printed online, it asks for a “tax return transcript” and W-2 forms to be attached to the document. I had begun filling out this form weeks in advance; my parents were convinced that the W-2 forms and the Tax Transcript were the same form. However, I have recently discovered that they are not the same form and I must order a tax transcript online. The verification documents are due by June 10th and I do not know if I will be able to receive the tax return transcript on time because I am not sure how long it takes to receive it after having ordered it.
Can I possibly send the W-2 forms and the printed documents separately from the tax transcript to ensure that I am considered on time?
The website states that I must have all documents in by Jun 10th otherwise my grants are not guarenteed
They have taken about a week to come in, unless there is a glitch.
You (parents can order the transcript immediately, and they will send it to you. The IRS says it will take 2-3 weeks, but I’ve always gotten them pretty quickly, in about a week. Order it over the weekend, Monday is a holiday, but I bet you’ll get it by the following Monday or Tuesday. I wouldn’t send thing in piecemeal. Just order it now and send it when you get it all together
Also if your parents filed their tax return a while ago, did you try going into the FAFSA and linking the tax return to your FAFSA with the data retrieval tool?
But at this point I would order tax transcript just in case as well so you get it in time.
When did your parents file their tax return? Did they owe money, and if so, how did they pay?
Did they file their taxes electronically?
