I was not eligible to use retrieval tool so went to IRS website and used tool to order a return transcript. My question:

If request went through does that mean the return is proscessed and the transcript will be sent? My worry is: I will get a letter in a few weeks saying they can not send transcript at this time because return not processed.

I worry because it has only been a week since the IRS sent me a correction/change notice. I need the transcript because was chosen for verification.

Yes, if you were able to order the transcript it will be sent in the mail. Allow 1-2 weeks to get it. You wouldn’t be able to order a transcript if your return was not processed.

Were you specifically asked to submit the ‘tax transcript’? I ask because we were verified and the college only asked for a copy of the tax returns.

Yes Arutha: The UC’s ( I have twins ) asked for transcripts and would not accept copies. However USC a private University were satified with signed copies for verification.

prouducsddad, did you e-mail the schools and told them you were not eligible? and then they requested the transcript?

i’m in a similar dilemma.

My dad is not eligible for the IRS tax retrieval tool; however, he also cant get the tax transcript in a timely manner. My dad placed two cousins under his dependents and he requested their iTIN, individual tax identification number. We called the IRS and the lady said that takes minimum 10 weeks and then the processing of the application takes 6-8 weeks.

We are looking at up to 18 weeks of waiting time before I can get a tax transcript and we were among those chosen for verification.
What can I do? I’m freaking out… my dad makes under 30k a year and we need this money…

I’m going to UCSB if that makes a difference.

Saldana: My D also accepted at UCSB. They state that financal aid letter is prelimminary and will after reciept of SIR move to the next step in processing, which could include request for more documentation. So I am anticpating that they will request it as have the other UC schools. I strongly advise you call them if that is where you are planning on going.
BTW thier offer was better than UCLA’s.So all UC’s are not the same.
Best of luck

I e-mailed them and this is what they said:
"Hello,

We understand that there is going to be a delay in getting the transcripts and our office will still consider you on time as long as you respond to our request for the transcript within the dates we ask for.

As I mentioned, we have not asked for any documents yet but once we need them, we will email you and add them to the document tab on our financial aid website."

I feel much better now. Thanks prouduscdad!

They gave my son a May 25th. deadline. Went to IRS this am, it took about 15 min and tyey printed one out for me. I had requested one by mail but got nervious.

Yeah, I had the same problem with the tool not working. I called my local IRS office and had them fax it to me. Thankfully, they did so immediately (almost) and I was able to fax it to the college right away.
