Urgent Help!!! Is this a solid appeal letter, or I should do something differently.

Hey I recently applied to UIUC in about mid February, and got my denial a couple of days ago.
This is my appeal
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Undergraduate Admissions Department

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to appeal my academic rejection from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Initially, I was a bit surprised at the decision, but I completely understand considering the influx of transfer students applying to this public university. My appeal is solely reasoned by the complication and confusion of my submitted application form.
Originally, I understood the date and credentials needed in order for my application to process through the system. In mid-February I sent out all the needed paperwork for the application to be processed. Though, soon after I checked myillini, it stated that my application wasn’t completed, and I still had to attain my high school transcript, and I sent it to the admissions office. This process for me specifically was completely chaotic. Through multiple calls to the admissions office, the solution wasn’t resolved because the department hadn’t received my high school transcript to verify that I attended school in Illinois for 4 years. About a month of persistently calling the undergraduate admissions office and other departments, I still couldn’t resolve the issue, even when I sent my transcript through parchment to the department multiple times. Finally, on March 15, 2016, the last day that the department acquires pertinent application information, they received my transcript. This caused an egregious limbo towards my application process and delayed it tremendously. In any case, I am not pointing a finger at anyone, but just wanted to clear this up because this institution has been a dream of mine ever since middle school. Attending this university with my brother, who is a current student, would be a dream come true.

I have a 3.93 GPA currently, and 4th semester I will probably be receiving a 4.0 with a more rigorous schedule. I also just became a Phi Thetta Kappa member, which I didn’t mention in my application . Also, I am deferred action student, which may have made my application a bit more confusing. This summer I will be acquiring my associates degree as well. Just wanted to know why I possibly didn’t get accepted to their Finance Program. And wanted to know whether any of this info can help in my favor.
Thank you so much.

Do not do “to whom it may concern”. Address it to someone. Call the admin office if you have to. Make it personal.

This will not work, so don’t do it. It is wasting your time. If they want another student they will accept students from the waitlist, not a student they denied.

If you want to know why you were denied, you MUST go through your guidance counselor. If indeed there was a mistake, it has to be resolved that way, not from you.

I have to agree that going through your guidance counselor is the way to go here. Coming from you they will consider it just an excuse. Coming from a guidance counselor might have a shot (even so, I wouldn’t hold my breath).

2 is correct. There is an entire waitlist of people whom UIUC consider more likely than you, should they want to admit more. You didn't even make that cut. Why? Who knows? But they're not going to entertain your request.

It’s time to nurse the bruised ego and just chalk it off. Say “it’s their loss” and move on.

Should I personally call them myself or should i call them with my guidance counselor from high school(whom I haven’t contacted in 2 years). Also, should i contact any counselor in the undergraduate admissions office or specifically my admissions counselor for UIUC? Thanks

Should I address it to the admissions counselor they assigned me?

I’m sorry you weren’t accepted, but I don’t understand the basis of your appeal. The college had your high school transcript by the deadline. When they choose the deadline they give themselves adequate time to review any paperwork they receive by that date. What’s “egregious limbo” to you may be business as usual to them. It appears to me that you are pointing fingers for the delay between the time you sent your transcript and when it was officially added to your file, and I don’t believe that helps you.

There isn’t any new information in this letter. Basically, you’re asking them to reverse their decision because it’s your dream school. I understand that you’re disappointed, but I don’t think they’ll consider that a legitimate reason to overturn an admissions decision.

Did you get accepted to any affordable colleges?

I have been accepted to Depaul as well.

Though i don’t think it is very affordable for me because I can not sign up for FAFSA due to me being a undocumented student.

@fali6924 , not quite sure what advice you are looking for. You will not be attending UIUC. If finances are the issue, then I think at this point, you must consider starting off at community college. Or take a gap year, maybe save up some money, try again next year. Have you also thought about doing CLEP exams? You can test out of general Ed classes. Maybe even if you can’t afford college right now, you can take CLEP exams, that way the info is still fresh in your mind. Google it. CLEP credits are accepted at all kinds of state colleges. It will save you money because you will be able to focus on your major much more quickly. Good luck. And please go see your guidance counselor.

I also had to read this a couple of times to figure out the reason for the appeal. There was some complication with your high school transcript which was annoying to you, but all the documents were received by the deadline. So it doesn’t sound like there are any mistakes that would have affected their decision. Talk to your counselor about what schools will be affordable to you given your status. Would UIC be more affordable than DePaul? Good luck!

You missed a pre requisite and are now enrolled to take it this summer. Now why should UIUC have let you in previously? I don’t see your point or any question you’re raising. Take the class and re apply. I see nothing which would be a basis of an appeal

This is your second post of an appeal of a denial from UIUC with a second excuse for appealing. First you said your transcript didn’t arrive early, now you say you did not finish the prerequisites. I’m sorry but I strongly suggest you move on.

As of about a few days ago I might of heard one of the worst news of my college years, which was my admission denial to University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. In my egregious state, I knew i shouldn’t let my emotions get in the way and try to make this personal. Soon after, I contacted the undergraduate admissions office, in which the counselor assessed to
me that the primary reason for my denial as a transfer applicant was because I did not take a required mathematics class to satisfy my transfer application, specifically Finite Mathematics. To my shock, I thought that this would be the last reason I wouldn’t get accepted. Which brings me to my appeal on this last prerequisite course class that I haven’t taken this semester. The only reason I did not satisfy this course from the spring semester is because I am taking 3 quantitative courses: statistics, economics, and accounting. For that reason, I believed this number heavy semester would disrupt me from a mathematics course, which would be too much for a semester. So, as a result I decided I would take this course over the summer, where I would focus on one course of mine for a higher probability of success. Therefore, I have already enrolled in the summer course, and will without a doubt be taking this course this summer to qualify all of my necessary classes. I have proof to show that I have enrolled in the course as well. Ultimately, I believe that as long as I have the course completed before coming into UIUC I will be at the same level playing field as the other applicants of my major of Finance. However, I don’t believe I should be denied my admission because I took a necessary course over the summer. To take a class at a later time period because of my schedule, shouldn’t be the deciding factor of my denial.

Thanks

It looks as if you originally believed your denial was due to late high school transcripts but have since found out it was because of a missing prerequisite course. If you still want to appeal this decision you must have someone (your guidance counselor?) sit down and help you re-write this letter! It is very awkwardly written and has several instances of mis-used words and phrases. Good luck!

Give it a shot. Why not? What you got to loose?

Don’t send that letter.

First, it won’t work. You were denied because you didn’t have one of the required courses. Take the course and reapply. They won’t change their decision because you write a letter.

Second, the letter needs a lot of editing. There are many grammatical errors and several instances of strange phrasing. Are you perhaps not a native English speaker? The way you use some words is just odd. Sending that letter now may actually hurt your reapplication next year.

They suggest you work with the counsellors for the appeal process. Contact them and explain that you are taking the course this summer and ask them what to do about the appeal. If it’s truly because of one missing class it could actually work and there is no harm in trying. Just discuss it with them
