Hello!!! I'm an international student from Mongolia who really wants to study in America. I'm also a participant of USAP (United States Achievers' Program - program started by US government) which helps students study in the States. Many say being a USAP'er helps a lot with the admission process and some previous USAP'ers got into really competitive colleges with full scholarships.
Anyways, that could be just a dream for me. So I think I should be more realistic and be aware.
So I've chosen these 4 colleges that are stable and cannot be changed. They are:
MIT
Cornell
Vanderbilt
Grinnel
You might know that my major is engineering/computer science from the names of colleges. So what I want to do now is to add 4 or 5 (even 6 if necessary) safeties. Especially, I'd like to add some LAC's that are good at CS. I am also thinking of dual major program (CS+Business). But I'm told that I don't have to worry about it, since I can choose my major at the end of sophomore year. Is it true?
Okay, let me start with my stats (lol very few)

SATI : 440 CR, 560 W, 750 M (retaking it in Dec for at least 550 CR, 650 W, 800 M without dumb mistakes)
Honestly, I always thought that only TOEFL is required, but last July I found out so-called SAT thing existed there waiting for me. I should have known about it a lot earlier. Also in summer I didn't practice enough. You know, it is SUMMER.
SATII : NOV 22, but I'm expecting 800 Math2, 750 Physics, 790~800 Japanese
TOEFL iBT: At least 90. I'm sure enough. I will take it just after my Dec SAT.
EC's: I'm kind of non-sport man. But I participated in so many academic competitions and received enough prizes, I think. Also I've been teaching at local orphanage for 2 years (Japanese, Math, English and everything I know).
Oh yeah my GPA is around ~3.9. And I am in the top 5 at my school. My highschool is one of the most competitive HS's.

So I want to know what are my chances and safeties. I know first 4 colleges written above are all really tough ones. And I don't have any preferences on location, size, weather, etc. All I need/want is that my prospective college will teach me an adequate education. Yea, I want the best education.

Oh, I think I should add one more thing. I'm highly depending on scholarship. And also there is a list of colleges that support USAP. Do you want me to post it?

First off, there just can't be too many students from Mongolia applying to US universities. Off the top of my head, I can't remember ever having a Mongolian student in any of my classes, though it's very possible that some of the larger ones did.

That's in your favor.

Your English is quite good, so I also would expect a great TOEFL score. Your SATs, on the other hand, are quite low for the four schools you have listed. I can't speak for their admissions departments. It's quite possible that they will be intrigued by a Mongolian student, but the SAT CR score is just horribly low for any of those schools. They might question whether you have the reading comprehension skills to succeed there.

A list of schools that support USAP would be helpful. I have no idea how many schools in the US have substantial scholarship money for international students, but I think it's a rather low number.

Really, I think you have a much better chance at a number of large, state-supported schools that have engineering programs. Any of them will definitely give you an adequate education, and even a very good one.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, I was thinking that you guys might ask me about my surprisingly low CR score. To be honest, I had a party the night before the test and came home so late. It was just foolish of me. Then, next morning, on the test date, I was really ****ed up. That's why I did so poor. But I hope the retake will bring me better scores. Also I hope that admissions departments would be lenient on international students' SAT scores.
Is it true that public schools don't offer much scholarships compared to private ones? Many say it's true. But I've no idea.

This is not on your list, but it is one the most selective engineering schools in the US and best thing is they offer FULL scholarships for all students.

Okay, Cooper Union. I'll keep that in mind. Also, what do you think of Case Western Reserve, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Middlebury, and Williams?? And also what if I apply for Harvey Mudd?? What are my chances? Are these LAC's above considered having good CS departments? Can they provide a solid CS program?

those schools you mentioned are top notch but your stats, despite the fact that you're from mongolia, are too low. cooper union, along with olin, is a great engineering school that offers full rides to all qualified applicants but it is even more competitive than some of the ivies.

what stats of mine are too low?? and what if I improve my SAT score from 1750 to 2000ish range?? Last 2 days, I took 2 practice tests from Blue Book and score 1920 and 2050. So I'm a bit motivated. :-)
