***Urgent*** Listing Colleges on FAFSA

So I already submitted the FAFSA, but then I changed my colleges in alphabetical order (as suggested by my friend) and submitted it again. Would colleges receive the corrected version or both? Also, would “University of-” schools be listed under “U” in the alphabet or the 1st letter of the next word?

I thought that you were supposed to list state colleges first.

@gearmom Yes but either way I couldn’t care less about state colleges. It’s the expensive private universities that I want aid from.

Gearmom, that only applies to some states.

I’m not sure what the point in switching to ABC order was. The school finaid officers are going to look at your financial data. They don’t really have the time to look over thousands of lists of other colleges.

And if you are worried about admissions…most school admissions offices never see a FAFSA at all.

I read that thedo not care about

Sorry, should be … I read that the expensive privates do not care about order so what does it matter. States do but as you say you don’t want aid from them.

@thumper Yes I heard that it was just some states that cared but didn’t know which ones so we just listed them in order of interest.

Just to clarify, I heard that some schools may look at the order to determine the student’s interest and may use the list as an excuse to deny the student if their school is at the bottom of the list. If I put it in alphabetical order, apparently the schools shouldn’t be able to tell my preferences.

Caffeine. Like I said…at the vast majority of schools, the admissions folks never see your financial aid application forms. They are in the financial aid office, not admissions.

And even for need aware schools…the admissions folks know your ability to pay, not the list of schools listed on your financial aid application forms.

But if it makes you feel better to have them in ABC order…that’s fine.

Some states that give merit aid to in-state students request that the state school be listed first. Just make sure you read the information FOR YOUR STATE if you desire to receive state aid.
