Urgent Message to Declare Major

Hello There,

Today I got an e-mail from Letters and Sciences that basically asked why I hadn't declared my major yet, considering my junior standing. The e-mail instructed me to do so as soon as possible in order to to avoid any registration blocks or further complications.

Thing is, I'm a transfer student, and still need one more class (that I'm currently taking this semester) to formally declare my major. It was my understand that because I am a new transfer student, I needed to declare my major by the end of the fall semester/begining of spring semester.

I know we're supposed to register for the spring semester pretty soon. I'm just hoping that I will be able to enroll in the classes I need. I just find the e-mail a bit strange since all the transfers I know declared after their first semester at Cal.

Any insight? Any would be appreciated. If not, I'll just contact L & S.

You are an English major, yeah? Contact the undergraduate English advisor, an office of transfer students advisor, your counselor (who you've already had so much history with), and (or) regular L&S advising.

The college really pressures transfer students to declare their first semester here, although from what I've heard you really don't have to.
You can also declare your major despite being enrolled in prerequisites... they just wait to review your application until the semester is over and your grades are in.
If you're definitely doing English, go ahead and declare now. Hopefully the deadline hasn't passed (I know it has for Econ).

Thanks Guys -

I emailed my major advisor and he said that Cal likes to try to put up a lot of road blocks when it comes to major declaration, but that if I had any problems, just to contact him about it.

I guess I will try and declare anyhow, just to get it out of the way.
