Urgent: My teacher is procrastinating with recs

Okay, my teacher was supposed to hand me my rec a week ago so that my school could mail it to the college for ED. But he hasn't finished it, so what can I do to express my urgency without appearing too rude?

Politely remind the teacher about the deadline and ask if there is any additional info from you the teacher needs to complete the recc. BTW, when is the deadline? If the deadline is, for instance, Dec. 1, your teacher has plenty of time to finish the recc.

Everything has to be mailed to the university by November 1. So he only has a few more days before it needs to be sent out.

So talk to him as I suggested. You also could ask your guidance counselor to follow-up. The teacher still has a couple of weeks, so it’s not as urgent as you may think it is.

You could guilt your teacher into actually getting it done by taking in muffins or cookies and a “thank you for writing my rec letter” note.

This could back fire badly.

Colleges are usually a little flexible on the deadlines when it comes to things outside the applicant’s control, like counselor reports or teacher recs. Don’t worry too much about it having to actually be in the office by Nov. 1. Which is not to say it wouldn’t be nice for the teacher to get to it, but no need to get anxious about it yet.
