Hi, I am taking the Jan 2016 SAT and I also did it once in December 2015.
My weakest area is definitely my essay, and in fact, I have trouble finishing it most of the time (like last time I did it)
I have always been a slow writer and prefer to sit down with tea and blankets and write for hours for a good essay, but I know that I don’t get this luxury when doing a 25 mins essay.
I can generally finish an essay in 40 mins now but that is still very far away from 25mins.
Plus, I have a lot of grammatical errors that I just blatantly ignore when I am under time pressure and I am sure my spelling is pretty atrocious too.
Anyone has advice on how to plan/structure/ write the essay in this way that may help me to speed up the process
Please and thank you!.
BUMP! And I will try to post a few examples of my essay on here, so you guys can diagnose me better!
BUMP! I think the main problem with my writing process is that I lack a go to structure or systemic way of planning . So, I spend a lot of time on thinking about what I am going to write and not fully developing my ideas.
Last BUMP! please guys, help a SAT stricken soul.
You seem to have the opposite problem of kids who start writing without thinking about what they want to say. You may need to trim the planning time. Look at the prompt. Pick three things that relate to it. Jot down whatever books or other sources you might want to refer to. Start writing.
They’re not looking for masterpieces. Well, maybe they hope to find some, but most of us are not able to churn out a master piece of work in 25 minutes. It sounds as though you need to aim for shorter/less comprehensive but with better grammar and spelling. I have no idea what the scoring protocol is, however, so my thoughts about the balance between those things may be useless, but I would rather read a bare-bones essay with grammatical sentences and no spelling errors than a creative mishmash with dangling participles and comma splices that “indecated an inabillity to spell worts corectly.” :-c
Thank you so much for your advice!
