I come from a low-income family and believe I meet the academics needed for Questbridge - I only know about it from one of those random college emails. Anyway, the application is due very soon on sept 28, yet I don't know if I should apply.

For early decision, ranking schools, I believe the college match is binding and the "full tuition" is given for finalists that are also accepted to that particular college? (except for MIT, Yale, Stanford, and Princeton)

I'm thinking moreso towards RD with most of my choices, though my biggest question is 1. how will QB help with RD if there is no guaranteed scholarship and wouldn't I save a lot of work if I just apply to school w/o it and apply for the school's specific financial aid or hope for some merit aid, etc? Thanks.

Does Quest Bridge Full tuition - include room and board? That’s a big piece of this question. I would say if they answer is yes - heavens - apply and hope you get it - ED or not and be thankful if you do.

Most schools will not meet full need. Some do - most are the Ivy’s.

Depends on your stats, need, etc.

But full ride merits are hard to come by. Most schools do not meet full need based on financial situation. You might be able to combine the two for a full ride at some schools - but that will take research and targeting. If you are a senior - you are running out of time as most of those apps have to be in by Nov. 1.

Keep in mind - even if you get a full ride - you still have other school expenses, and travel costs, and spending money.

If you are a low income - use what ever strategy you can do get the best deal you can.

If the QB is ED - binding - and only full tuition - you might not apply to those schools in QB. Target the other schools that are not ED/binding.

College Match scholarship recipients are granted admission to one of QuestBridge’s partner colleges with a full scholarship. The scholarships are provided by our partner colleges.

All scholarship packages include:

Full cost of tuition.
Full cost of room and board.

The problem is at the bottom of the site, it lists each college and “differences” or individual packages, which idk if this is too good to be true…

Partner College Scholarship Packages
The exact breakdown of each scholarship varies slightly depending on the partner college. Click on a college below to see the financial aid package offered to students who are admitted through the College Match. These numbers are based on costs for the 2012-2013 school year, unless otherwise indicated. Amounts will change slightly from year to year, but as the cost of college increases, the scholarship packages will correspondingly increase

There have been several students on CC that went through QB and Most were very satisfied. Check out the FA forum as suggested earlier. It is a lot of work but many students were able to get in to the schools even if they didn’t get in directly through QB.

I would suggest taking a deep breath and spend the next 30 to 60 minutes reading the threads that have been suggested.

A full ride/ with almost all tuition and room/ board - is nothing to not take a shot at … I realize you are saying you are concerned it’s not the FULL amount - but there may be stafford loans you can take or parent loans/ low interest to make up the rest if need be.

From what I’ve read - QB is a great solution for Low income kids …so just do some reading tonight …

I’ve been reading some of the threads, but haven’t found the information I need. My only concern is the binding for the EA/matching, which is the agreement with the schools. RD completely changes things, though it does still improve chances for aid and acceptance.
