URGENT -- sending in a resume (sorry I know it's been mentioned before)

sorry, i know this has been talked about before but it's pretty urgent... is sending in a resume going to look really bad? i know on the application all it says is "in lieu of completing this section," but does that actually mean "don't?" the reason i ask is because i've held a lot of leadership positions that i'm really proud of, but they're not necessarily part of the activities i consider most important to me. i still want the admissions committee to see those positions/leadership skills, however, so i'm not really sure what to do now since the application is due in 2 DAYS! i would appreciate any feedback! thank you!

oh btw... when i say resume i mean an actual resume, one page just listing activities (and sometimes short descriptions when absolutely necessary) and my positions/responsibilities/honors/awards recieved in those activities.

From what Ben J. has said, the standard answer is this: you can send a resume if it will add something significant to your application. Just know that the admissions committee won't necessarily be impressed with a list of leadership positions, so choose carefully how you present your resume (so that it doesn't look like a laundry list and so that it doesn't bore the admissions office.)

If you can find a way to reference your leadership positions and awards in the application itself, that's always best. As BenG says, if your resume will add something significant, you can send it. They ask you about your "5 most important..." for a reason: they want to know which of your activities mean the most to you, and what you did with them.
