URGENT Short Notice Studying for SAT

Basically I haven't been studying for the SAT at all. I did take courses before on how to solve it with Princeton Review but, that ended up with a 1550. I knew I was going to take it on December 6, 2014, but I never put my head to it until now. My colleges won't take below a 1850. So basically I'm aiming for at least a 1900. Does anyone know any sources I can use that will help me increase my score that much in the remaining days.

Summary: I need a really good source that will help me boost my grade, I only have 2 weeks to study

Math- Do blue book and know how to do every problem
Also, watch some quick reviews on Youtube if you can

Crit. Reading- Direct Hits 1 +2 for vocab should be sufficient and do all the blue book tests and go over why you got each error

Writing- Essay: 10 Days for a 12 post on CC and then do some practice tests from blue book and read over Erica Meltzer’s guide which should be found on google

GOOD LUCK!

I think the advice above is pretty weak. I’d start here:

<a href=“Everyone, read this before posting: Best of SAT Prep Forum and FAQs - SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/763933-everyone-read-this-before-posting-best-of-sat-prep-forum-and-faqs-p1.html</a></p>

^ I second @scarlettlovesivy‌ advice. One thing I would change is that the essay only necessitates like 5 examples at most for memorizing. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE with college board tests. This is essential for a high score.

@CHD2013 No advice is weak and actually it has worked many times before so…

@TheCalculator Yep, 5 examples are good enough tbh. I make them up, personally.

^Ok, I’m intrigued. When you say it worked, what do you mean? Can you be more specific, maybe provide some examples?

It is not bad advice in general, but it might not address the time frame. Who can argue that learning how to do every question in the blue book is a bad idea? And Erica Meltzer’s writing book is excellent. OK, “review some youtube videos” is pretty vague… but other than that, none of this is a bad plan…for someone who has several months to work with at least! But with just a few weeks to go (and school to deal with as well), this might not be realistic. Two or three thoroughly analyzed blue book tests might be a more realistic goal. And you might want to find some summaries of key content to speed up your process. Read the stickies!

@pckeller I agree with that! My plan has to be modified for to accommodate for the short time period.

@CHD2013 Plenty of my classmates who needed help have followed this plan to some degree and have increased their scores substantially. I don’t know what kind of proof you’re looking for and I don’t know why you’re questioning me when I’m just trying to help.

This advice is weak because it misses a lot of the great advice available on this forum. For those who are not aware of it, check out the stickied threads.

Other quibbles: the you tube videos are not among the best way to learn math. Supplement the blue book with vides from sat quantum instead, or books like PWN the SAT, something by Dr. Steve or the P. Keller book. For CR, you’ll get much more out of The Critical Reader than Direct Hits, especially with a 2 week timeframe. Direct Hits covers only vocabulary, a small part of the overall test. I do like the Writing advice, although I’d buy Erica’s full book if possible rather than just using the internet abridged version of it.

Scarlett, I asked you about results because people have very different standards of success and I was legitimately curious about yours. For example, can you be more specific about “substantially”? Questioning is not an attack, its what happens on these forums when people are trying to understand the suggestions of others.

@CHD2013 I’m sorry I just assumed you were one of those pretentious people on this site who don’t allow other’s opinions. I see what you’re saying. My advice is sound advice for someone who has been studying and needs to really quickly review things, not for someone who is at the 0 mark. Yeah, this forum has TONS of great advice and if one were to utilize all of it, there is essentially nothing stopping them.

DIRECT HITS!! Seriously, the vocab questions in CR are the EASIEST points if you know the words. Let’s face it, the passage readings are tough, ESPECIALLY when you only have 2 weeks and aren’t already good at them.

For maths, pwnthesat is a really good resource.

For writing, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend sparknotes website UNLESS you already know your grammar
