Urgent!!! should I retake a "C"???

Okay to get this over with, to summarize my situation:

Algebra 2A/Trig. is worth 5 credits, so what would happen if I retook the class is that the credits under the “C” will become zero. It is STILL VISIBLE by colleges though (MY BIG CONCERN), but it doesn’t count for anything. The new grade e.g. “A” will count toward my rank/gpa and will appear as having 5 credits.

This is the part I need crucial advice on, my question is that if colleges still see that “C” then is it worth it to retake for a higher grade, rank/gpa? I’m afraid they’ll look at me weirdly.

Help me go through with a decision once and for all! I don’t have much time, the class starts soon.

In my opinion, this is a waste of time and money. You’ve move beyond your sophomore year and it’s time to stop obsessing (yes, obsessing) over a C+. The benefit of a higher grade in that one class does not correlate with a benefit towards admission to Ivy’s.

I see that you want to go to Brown. The Val of my younger son’s class wanted to go to Brown. She took an extremely rigorous HS curriculum (multiple AP’s across all subjects) with straight A’s.

She played a varsity sport throughout HS. She was the class President. She had hundreds of hours of community service. She was an Intel-Semi Finalist. She worked @summer jobs since the age of 14. She was involved with the school’s plays and played in the band for 4 years. She even participated in a Summer Science Research summer program at Brown. She was incredible—well rounded, smart, humble, and caring. Her dad had a very prominent job.

She was rejected. In other words, stop obsessing about one friggin grade. It’s not going to matter. Move on and concentrate on your current and future classes.

You need to decided on your own if you want to take the class or not. The choice is yours. No one can make predictions with complete certainty about college admissions. You can ask questions and people will give you their opinions on the subject. In the end, you need to decide what to do.

Is it true most schools (colleges) don’t honor the new and improved grade if you retake a class? I retook Honors Precalc (got a B- first tri junior year; that teacher was a nutcase [i.e., D+ class averages on his tests, Rubik’s Cube assessments, students switching into the equivalent class at the other school in our district merely to escape him]…this guy who has a 36 ACT got an 82% for this class]) for an A, and apparently the grade that’s factored into my transcript GPA is only the new A. My school doesn’t rank students.
