Urgent: To register or not, Freshmen Honors Seminar

hey all,
I was approved to take one of the FHS, Do Words Have Power?: Debates and Speeches in American Politics. I have heard several comments against taking an honors seminar... but I would like to know about the quality of this specific seminar. If anyone or (someone you know) took it, could you share your experience?

ps: im graduating a semester early so i can't afford to "waste" any elective credits, but I will squeeze it in if the seminar is really good.

ps: if I take this course, I won't be able to take either ConWest or World Culture in my first semester.. and I can afford only to take 2 electives throughout college! thats harsh.. haha.

You're a Sternie, right? What's the point of graduating early? Companies recruit for jobs that begin at a set time, and that's usually after the spring semester, I believe. It'll save you some money, but if you're going into big debt, a little more isn't going to make a difference.

Regardless, I think it's worth to take the Freshman Honors Seminars. It's a good way to start making connections with your professors, and you might make some good friends.

register it ASAP or it will close out on u... regardless of u being invited...
u can always drop it later
i agree with shades abt graduating early... i'm not a sternie but i don't think saving a semester's fee is worth spoiling ur college experience... and ur GPA which u will most most probably end up doing....i know ppl who're trying, i don't think its worth it.

i third that thought

do we have to take both Conversation with the West and World History or is it one or the other?

You have to take both ConWest and Wold Cultures, although it is advisable to take them at separate times.

Yeah, I considered graduating a semester early, but there's really no point. I'm in Stern, and everyone's pretty much told me that a lot of recruiting for full-time happens in the spring because the normal start date is during the summer/towards the fall, so you're actually missing out on a lot of possible recruiting opportunities by not being there in the spring.

Plus, if you can graduate a semester early, I'd actually advise you to just leave one of your required classes (most people choose to leave the 2 credit ethics class) for the spring and just go parttime 2nd sem senior year. Then, you're paying maaaybe $3-4k for tuition and then housing, which can be fairly easily covered if you're working or interning in your free time.

Enjoy college. You're going to be in the "real world" for the rest of your life. There's no need to get there any faster than you already are.

if you only register for 2 credits wouldnt you lose your housing (bc you're a part-time student)?

I believe there's an exception for senior Sternies - they can go part-time during their last semester but stay in housing. Right, youko?

bump anyone?
