* URGENT: University of Washington, Probability of having admission revoked?

Yeah so the D+ in AP Comp Sci won't have my admissions revoked? Is U Washington a public ivy? Is the college of arts and science less prestigious than its college of engineering?

Most had a 90-something% admittance rate.

ceecee,
Which departments have 50% or less acceptance rate? I hear that the business school is competitive, with 50% acceptance and around 3.5 college GPA. CS is even more competitive. How is engineering?

How is math? What is their acceptance rate and gpa?

Yes, their business major was actually what piqued my curiosity about the whole admittance-to-your-major process. It's extremely competitive... I thought if every major was like that, going to UW really wouldn't be worth it. You know, you spend time and money investing in prerequisite classes. It seemed so unfair for the university to take that and then turn around and say, "well, only 1 in 2 of you is actually going to get the degree." And then you have to transfer out and-- maybe-- repeat the process. Not cool. So my essay was going to explore this problem and propose another system to eliminate wasted time and money.

I cannot remember all the departments I contacted... materials engineering, aeronautical something or other, English... the list goes on, but it I couldn't say for sure (this was almost 3 years ago already). And although I didn't get a reply from the international relations department, I would not be surprised if competition to that major was on par with business. But that is only speculation. The thing I remember most clearly is that, after receiving the admittance rates, I realized I didn't have a leg to stand on with my essay. The lowest admittance rate was 86%... that was some engineering program (I'm not sure which). The others had even higher percentages than that. Competition was so low that I'd say most anyone who was serious about school could get into their desired program. It was definitely not the problem I had assumed it was.

So, in the end, my essay kinda sucked... But chances are, you can breathe a sigh of relief. I'd still contact whatever department you had in mind for yourself, though-- just to play it safe. :)

I hear that Computer Science is very competitive (and I'd presume the same for Computer Engineering). I'd expect the acceptance rate to be around 50% or less. Did you check into either of these programs?

As I've said before, I do not remember. My whole point was that some majors advertised as "competitive" really weren't terribly competitive. If you want to know for sure (indeed, a lot can change in three years besides my memory) and prove that CS is as competitive as business, you'll have to contact the department for yourself. But for now, it just seems as if I'm repeating myself...

what did you score on your SAT or ACT because you gpa is quite low, did you invent something or are you a diplomat?
