Colleges may also calculate EFC differently from the FAFSA EFC calculation and each other. They may also have different levels of expected student contribution (i.e. federal direct loans and student work earning expectations, which may be partly or fully covered by work study subsidy). So it is important to check each college’s net price calculator, rather than relying on guesses or assumptions about the college’s promise to “meet need”. However, unusual family financial situations may cause net price calculators to be less accurate.
What country are you living in? The US government supports educational advising centers around the world where you can get advice specific for the educational system where you have been studying. If no one at the office closest to where you live has worked with a US citizen recently (most will have), they have colleagues in other offices who can help out. Check these two links to find an office near you.
