I know Mcgill posts the minimum grade in each subject but do they consider what type of course you take because Im in AP Calc and there’s no way I can get an A-.
To the best of my knowledge, and having gone through this last year with my son, AP’s aren’t going to do you any good unless you’re looking for credit. McGill is only looking at unweighted averages. With a 4 or 5 on AP Calc AB you’ll get Math 140. With a 4 or 5 on AP Calc BC you’ll get 140 &141.
They do not when they are calculating GPA versus minima.
Would taking a Regents class which not as hard as an Honors class be better. The grade would be higher and not a factor since it’s unweighted?
I should have not taken so many hard classes. I am screwed. It is impossible to get an A- in my AP courses.
I would disagree with some of the above info. My son got into a tough faculty, and had only a 3.6GPA. He did have a good ACT score, but also had 13 AP courses, and went to a HS known for it’s standards(so informed by McGill admin).
We think that he got in with a slightly low GPA because of the toughness of his course load in HS.
