<p>I believe US News rank, which some people dislike, has helped put Northeastern on a good spot that it deserves in the name of reputation...
With the new ranking soon to be released for 2012, what do you personally feel will be NU's rank and why? </p>

<p>A pretty significant chunk of the rating is based on how other schools view you, which can be unfair because (even if no one is mean on purpose just to make their school look better) if no one has heard of you, you can’t go up in ratings, which means no one will ever hear about you. However cause of all President Aoun’s new stuff and all the new research, I think we’re slowly getting better at that part of it.</p>
<p>And we got a lot better when they changed the graduation timeline (so it wasn’t “how many graduate in four years”).</p>
<p>Northeastern got more applications this year than any other school in the country! That should help our case :)</p>

<p>I think it maybe more than either any other public or private. Was interested so looked up University of Florida. In 08-09 (the CC stat year) they got 26,326 applications. Ohio state got 20,932. Those schools both have student bodies of 50,000 plus! Wasn’t this year at NU over 40,000? Even adjusting for an increase over the past 2 years I’d bet NU had more than both. Positive for NU!!!</p>

<p>@twoby2013 I’m not sure, I did a short search (more like once haha) on google and I found that someone said they release it by April.</p>
<p>I am not very inclined to rely simply on the ratings to decide whether the school is perfect or not for me, however I am aware that the school does benefit a lot from the ratings itself, so if NU gets a higher rating this year this will make the student body prouder to be a Husky!! :D</p>

<p>Just a rise of 10 spots. As a school moves up in the rankings, the competition gets stiffer. I would hope for a greater rise but I don’t want to jynx it!</p>
<p>President Aoun has been making his (and Northeastern’s) presence known in the higher education circles around the country. There was a lengthy article in the Chronicle of Higher Education re: Northeastern’s increased visibility and its international coop programs. The Chronicle is sort of the industry newspaper for higher education read by many who do the USNews peer evaluation.

<p>So, if I graduate from NU in five years, do we think it has potential to be top 40?</p>
<p>If Northeastern score goes up by 1 point, it will be ranked 64th.
2 points = 63rd
3 points = 56th (will tie BU)
4 points = 55th (syracuse)
5 points = 54th (UFlorida)
7 points = 50th
10 points = top 40
It can go up a lot of places in rankings with the increase in popularity. It did move up like 10 or so places in one year. It would be nice to see it ranked top 50 or 40 by the time I graduate (2017). I really want to see new updated Pharmacy rankings.</p>

<p>I don’t see NEU breaking top 50 too soon, honestly. My guess would be that we spend the next two years in the 60s, then spend another few years in the 50s. I think 40 is a long way off. Looking at the rankings–Miami, Tulane, Wisconsin… those are good schools with longstanding good reputations. I don’t see us kicking them out of their rankings anytime soon.</p>
<p>For a long time, our co-op/5 year deal hurt or rankings, and US news finally adjusted it. Our reputation started getting better, our students became smarter and more ambitious blah blah blah. That’s been going on for some 10+ years, and that’s why our rankings have gone up SO fast. Our reputation is still improving, average SAT and selectivity still increasing… but I think the rankings have sort of caught up with the improvements in the school. I think we’ll still go up, definitely, but I don’t think we’re going to be making the massive leaps we’ve made in the past few years.</p>
<p>I’m more optimistic than Emily. I see Northeastern rising through the 50’s in the next few years but I agree that breaking 50 will be tough given NU’s limited endowment and the fact that schools in the top 50 are trying to stay there. Then again, ten years ago no one (except President Freeland) would have imagined NU being where it is today.</p>
<p>I agree with Emily. Whle I think we have the potential to knock back a few public schools that have lost funding (ex: UF where students are struggling to graduate on time because they fired so many professors and cancelled so many classes) but top 50 is a bit stretching it. I think we’ll get there eventually, but I don’t think it’ll be just a big jump to <50 in the next few years like the past few years have been.</p>
