US Presidential Scholar

I just finished applying. I also am wondering how many students thought about applying but decided against it because of the number of essays (there’s 6 of them!). I myself almost didn’t end up completing the application because of all the work. I’m also just done with those type of essays; the college process wiped me out. When do we get the accepted/declined letters?

Also, I didn’t know where to add my APs. I know my counselor submitted a bunch of stuff, is it accurate to guess they likely submitted my ap scores?

@rhymetime56‌ Your counselor should have done it, its part of their section.

What kind of picture did you all attach? Does it have to be one that you yourself took?

When is the actual deadline? It seems like the site says it’s willing to accept it up to March 2nd. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Although they recommend mailing it, is it okay to submit it online? (Press the submit button) Because it allows people to resubmit changes, which confuses me!

AFAIK the deadline is tomorrow (Friday) at 5 p.m. @XGeneration‌

If they’re saying March 2nd then I’m going with March 2nd.

Yeah just saw March 2nd on the website. Hooray! (Or actually that might be a bad thing

Does anyone know how important the first choice college is? I mean, no one is really going to see it except for the committee that reviews that application, right?

ALERT: New extended application deadline: Monday, March 2nd, 5 p.m. Central Time. Transcripts ONLY must be received by Tuesday, March 3rd, 5 p.m. Central Time. This is the FINAL extension the program is able to offer. All materials must be received at the Iowa address provided. DO NOT send materials to Washington D.C.

Remember: it is suggested to use a courier mail service like UPS or FedEx to send the packet back to Iowa. We used UPS Ground (I think) for two-day delivery. It was something like $9. We mailed it on a Monday and it arrived on Wednesday.

What’s the benefit of sending hard copy vs. online? D submitted her app via online and it went thru without any issues.

We had to mail hard copies of the school things, so we went with UPS.

Anyone remember when they will notify semifinalists?

I think mid April. Semis is about 500+

How will the semifinalists be notified? U.S. Mail?

I am wondering the same thing. This is what it said on their website.

“The names of the 2015 Candidates will be posted after applications are mailed in January 2015. The names of the Semifinalists will be posted in mid-April. The names of the 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholars will be posted in early May. We do not yet have exact dates for these postings.”

You can check on the website. It is the fastest way to get your results.

I was notified as a semifinalist like a month ago.

@jc1415 How were you notified? Semifinalists and non-semifinalists are supposed to receive news at the same time, in mid-April. The following is from the US Presidential Scholars website (frequently asked questions):

  1. Notification and Timeline Will everyone get a letter, or only those chosen as Semifinalists/Scholars?

Everyone we invite to apply, and who then submits an application for consideration, will get a letter notifying them of their status. Semifinalists and non-Semifinalists will be notified in mid-April. Scholars and non-Scholars will be notified in May.

Has anyone else received word?

@jc1415, are you maybe thinking of the initial notification of being a candidate?
