US Student - Parents working outside US

Need help... I am in a situation where I need financial advice. I have a student who is a US citizen and is looking to attend college. His parents are foreign citizens with a foreign income. The student has a legal guardian here in the US where he resides. How does he go about filling out the finacial info on the FAFSA? Please help as any advice would be appreciated.

Unless he has legal guardianship in the US courts where his parents no longer have legal rights to him/her, student is not independent for financial aid purposes.

student has to file the FAFSA using the parents income translated into US dollars. Since they most likely do not have a social security # they will place 000000000 in place of the SSN.

Agreed…if this isn’t a court-appointed guardian, but is just a document drawn up and signed by the parents, the student will have to use his parent’s income/asset info. He can’t use the guardian’s income/assets for FAFSA under any circumstances.

Thanks for the help :)
