Didn’t make it, but I found it funny that not a single Stuyvesant student was on the list for NY recipients. Being the number one school in the city its hard imagining why on earth they wouldn’t have at least one finalist from there.

hi everyone, how well-known is this scholarship? O_o
I’m a finalist also (haha, so happy, I’m a finalist for Gates Millennium Scholarship also) and was just wondering

@jsungoh yea the USA Funds finalist forms are so much easier than the Gates lol

@necroblood. Well if your school is the best in your city than its probably not inner-city / poorer people is it? And this has the requirement that your gross adjusted income be under $35,000 to begin with. That actually narrows down applicants a lot. Then they give half of those to minorities and disabled people so that narrows down for the non-minority, non-disabled people even more.

So do we know if all finalists actually get the scholarship? Or do they narrow it down based on grades? Because I figure the 1040 form is to verify eligibility and the transcript would differentiate between good and really good applicants if they don’t give all the finalists a scholarship.

How many finalists are there?
Didn’t I read somewhere that they give out 3,000 awards?

@ swicks: I think I read that too, but presuming by the list of names, it’s about that many (not going to attempt to count the # of ppl on that finalist list). A lot of threads just state that if you verify everything, then you’re set to get the $.

Random question to the whole population: On the form, it states that we have to write down the university we’re going to. What happens if we’re uncertain about which school we’re going to o_o bc that’s the only thing that’s stopping me from sending in my form right now. lol

^ oh jeezy… why didn’t you just contact them?

"Please list your first choice of institutions. If selected as a recipient you will have an opportunity to make a change.

Sincerely,

@TI: It’s in Manhattan, but its a public a school. Hmm my family’s gross domestic income was 23k so I don’t know what other factor they could’ve used to determine my status other than race. I’m bengali, so that makes me a minority, but yet I wasn’t a good fit. Do you know what they looked for in this scholarship?

@JelloBiafra
Did they tell you we could change our university?? =]
That’s the only thing that stopped me from sending my forms too…

@ jlee15; YEP!!! just put your first choice for now!

hehe ^ ^ yeah, after a period of absent silence, i decided to contact them and got the same response

guess ill just wait till april before sending ><

Anyone know when they notify the actual winners?

^ I was wondering the same thing o,o

On their finalist site, they said they’ll notify by June 30th (just checked)

So has anyone gotten a notification yet? Email? Mail?

From how nobody has posted that they’ve won this scholarship award yet, it most likely means not ._. I think they are literally going to wait till the 30th to announce the winners :x Hope that I got it x.x

The USA Funds website says that scholarship recipients will be notified ON June 30th.

Just got an email that my son is a recipient of the USA Funds Scholarship!! So happy for him.

I was notified this morning 6/23 at 6:56AM PST that I was a recipient!

notified today too.
