I'm a finalist, but so are 1,000+ others from my state. How do they choose? The add'l required forms are just a transcript and IRS tax forms...so is it just based on grades and financial need?

how many of the semifinalist are chosen for the finalist.....also have you guys look at the list of AK...there was like 3 pages of just people from that state...omg....

if you go back and look at the winners for the previous years, it seem there are roughly half of the finalists who will be recipients. At least it looks like that for texas

oh wait, I take that back, the lists of previous winners are based on the universities where they plan to attend...

so each university can have a specific number of winners? i hope im one of them! i really NEED money to go to college (so does everyone else ;)

so...since like 1000000000 kids were finalists...what are the chance of us actually getting the money?
somebody said depending on the college they go to? that's bull. so do i have to wait until april 1 to send them in the acceptance letter (if i actually get one)?

i don't know...i wish i knew the answer to that also!

My son was awarded this scholarship two years ago. He was listed as a semifinalist in the state we live, and then when the finalists were announced he is listed under the state where he is attending school.

I do not believe there is a specific number per school or that the decision on whether you get the award or not has any bearing on what school you plan to attend. Previous winners have ranged from small community colleges, technical schools, state schools, to more prestigious schools.

For now, everyone who is a semifinalist should be grateful to have gotten to this stage and thank USA Funds for their support of education, rather than venting.

that is true brianomatic. i'm really appreciate of USA Funds. however, I wish I more optimistic but this whole college/scholarship process has been tremendously grueling and i wasn't singling USA Funds. This process has been really exhausting

Congrats and good luck to the finalists! I applied but didn't get picked as a finalist =(

how much do we get if we win this USA/FUNDS? is it the same for everyone or does it depend on financial need? thanks...

When my son got this scholarshp two years ago it was the same for everyone. At the time, it was $1500 renewable for four years. I believe because of changes within the loan programs, etc. that there is no longer a guarantee that the scholarship is renewable. It may be a one-time award this year; I am not sure if it is still $1500 -- but I am sure it will be a flat rate for all award winners (meaning someone with a $10,000 income won't get $2000 versus someone with a $30,000 income getting an award amount reduced to $500, for example.) Whatever the amount is, whether it be $1000 or $1500, I would think everyone will get the same amount.

oh thanks!!
