@PercyFowl even if that is the case, which is very possible considering that the owner deleted it right after I mentioned we could look at the doc history, it’s not the worst thing in the world. A few people cheating on the exam is not going to change the 10th percentile much if at all.
@PercyFowl I’m kinda pissed
@KiaAfzali it can make more of a difference than you think. Especially to those who feel like they are on the border of making it to semis. Cutoff might go up fraction of a point leading to more dissapointment. However, theres nothing to be done about it.
What happened? did someone cheat?
@KiaAfzali yeah the whole thing is kinds of dumb
funnily enough the doc had a couple of wrong answers until Friday, so the best we can do is hope that the cheaters got screwed over and missed too many to make it to semi’s
@PercyFowl It’s disgusting how desperate people are to achieve something to put on their resume. Most of these guys dont even actually care about bio, they cheat to “pad” their resume to HYPMS.
To further confirm that there is no two versions, I would’ve liked to think that CEE wouldve mentioned something about it on here:
https://www.usabo-trc.org/whats-new-2017-usabo
I wonder if CEE is aware about this…or even cares…
how do u guys know ppl cheated?
@jmh311 did you not just read the last two pages…
Well I certainly learned a lesson: don’t discuss a usabo test online until 1 week after the deadline.
@GeometryForLife I asked Ms. Frame about the 2 version thing, I was wondering how the cutoffs would work for both tests. That’s when she told that there was only one version and that the 2 version thing was a college confidential rumor. I have a feeling like they might know but it’s hard to pinpoint one person with a name.
@PercyFowl lol who is Ms. Frame…?
i’ve talked to the doc owner and this was his response:
“We received multiple requests with improper verification, we wanted to make sure that people with extensions were not gaining access to the document. We can reinstate the doc in a week, do not worry, none of us cheated.”
@GeometryForLife she’s one of main organizers for USABO and the traveling coach for team USA
@KiaAfzali Why are you “kinda pissed”? Just looking through this thread, it turns out that you were the one to propose the rumor that there were two versions of the Open Exam.
“As it turns out, there were 2 tests this year. Version 1 was for week 1 and version 2 is for week 2 (from 13th to 18th). Version 2 is much more difficult than version 1 or any of the practice tests. Even my AP Bio teacher said he couldn’t answer some of the questions on the v2 test. I’m just hoping Cee uses different cut off scores for the 2 tests” [sic]
After this, people pretending to have taken the alleged “Version 1” were able to access the document and view the “Version 2” test. Since there is only one version, they were then able to cheat off the answers and jeopardize the cutoff for the rest of us.
Also, after viewing the document (after I took the Open Exam), I noticed that the “Version 1” table on the document was full of pictures from previous tests, which seems very suspicious as the CEE does not usually reuse old test questions, especially those already available online.
Just seems a bit suspicious. If you are really that desperate to get Semifinalist, I wish you the best of luck on the Semifinal Exam when you go against the people who actually deserve it.
@Solanaceae KiaAfzali wasn’t the first one to propose the rumor. The theory actually originated on the document among several other people and Kia simply relayed the message to CC. Also, the “good” news is that all of the people that I found sketchy on the doc were already on the doc before Kia made that post on CC, so it’s unlikely that other people accessed the document later pretending to have taken Test 1.
CEE, I would love to take another test and throw this one out ;)…
@Dukehopeful98 but doesnt that mean, the sketchy ones that were orignally on the doc couldve waited to take the exam?
also, i wonder how they were verified?? when i was verified, i had questions pertaining to the exam…
idk, this whole thing just seems stupid.
ok everyone, ive got a clear answer from the doc owner (big thank you for clarifying)
i asked him 2 things
- the 25 questions that were put before the actual test.
Response
We had noticed similarities between questions from past years and put those there in order to attempt to remember, notice that there were around 3 of us a week after the exam, compared to 5-10 only a day after the exam.
- why was the doc deleted
“We received multiple requests with improper verification, we wanted to make sure that people with extensions were not gaining access to the document. We can reinstate the doc in a week, do not worry, none of us cheated.”
@GeometryForLife they’re lying: the questions under week 1 looked nothing like week 2 questions and we know that there was only version, so we know they made stuff up
@GeometryForLife Their response doesn’t match up at all. Before, they were saying that those were the questions on the exam and that they must’ve taken a different, much easier exam. Now they’re saying that they were just trying to remember questions? They literally changed their story.
I dont know the questions, since I joined on Friday the 18th, could you tell me what they were like before being changed?
@GeometryForLife their week1 questions were literally screenshots from old tests
