@KiaAfzali thanks!
and just wondering what ambitions do you guys have for the USABO ( like getting into finals, semifinals, etc )

I think I might be able to make semifinals, but I’m really hoping to make it to the finals. It might be a longshot, but I’ll see.
@BRDTCMPV lol for me, it’s kind of weird. My older brother got a silver in IBO a couple years ago, so I’m hoping to get to finals at the very least.
@KiaAfzali Huh, I didn’t see any of those questions on the 2013 open exam. On the CEE website, it says that the questions will partly be in the form of multiple true/false. Is this the same things as multiple correct answers?
Good news. As it turns out, the way they grade the multiple answer questions is like this:
“Has NO Penalty for guessing. For multiple choice questions with more than one answer, the question value will be the number of wrong responses subtracted from the number of right responses with no question value below zero.”
This is for the semifinals, but I assume they do the same for the open exam.
@Anonymous1418 Yes, that’s what we mean.
@KiaAfzali Oh okay, sorry for the confusion.
@Anonymous1418 no problem!
Damn, it was hard lol
I thought it was similar to 2010 in difficulty. What bout you guys?
@AXGaming 2010 wasn’t too hard…
I thought 2010 was the hardest, that’s why
Yeah the cutoff was so low for 2010
@AXGaming would you say it was the hardest one yet?
Generally speaking, the difficulty of the test is not very important because if the test is dificult, then it’s difficult for everyone. So in theory, if you are consistently beating the cutoff scores for previous years, you should be able to pass the cutoff this year as well.
But in general, its getting harder to pass the cutoff for all competitions (including USABO, even with the test curve adjusted for all test takers. Kids are getting smarter, and only the smarter kids opt to take the test right now.
Omg this test was so fking hard. I randomly filled out like 15 of the questions. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cutoff is below 20 this year. This test was harder than the 2010 test which had a 21 cut off. The problem with tests like this is that since the cutoffs are so low, guesses and luck can play a large role in your grade. Therefore, instead of distinguishing the top 500, they are distinguishing the top 300 and 200 lucky contestants.
Would you say that the distribution of test questions across each area (anatomy and physiology, cell biology, genetics and evolution, etc) was similar to the distribution USABO says?
That was very hard!!! I expect a low cut off this year
@Anonymous1418 I would tell you, but I don’t want to jeopardize any scores
@MatthewW12 how was timing?
