USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Trojan1234 - I believe the International Relations/Global Business accepted transfer applicants have an average of 3.8. Since the major is linked with Marshall and it is one of the college’s impacted majors. Communications for Annenberg is near the same GPA, I think.

wait someone said if we are taking our major requirements/prereqs during the spring we wont hear from usc until july. is this true? i’m applying to marshall and i wont have calc 1 completed until spring next semester. i’m applying to haas/berkeley also and they start school in july but i’d rather go to usc. will i hear a decision from marshall before then?

hey everyone! I am applying as a Junior transfer for Fall 2010. I attend UC Santa Cruz, but I would love to transfer to Thornton as a Music Industry major. I currently have a 3.2ish gpa, but I know I can get it up to a 3.4 after Fall quarter. Throughout the past school year, my gpa consistently climbed, from a 2.35 fall quarter to a 3.56 in spring quarter. How much does Thornton care about gpa?

I work at my school’s radio station as a DJ on two radio shows, and I am also on the Program Review Committee and the Governing Board. I have helped plan numerous events at the station and I was awarded Rookie of the Year for the 2008-2009 year. Outside of school, I interned at Warner Bros. Records this summer in the promotions department. Will these extracurricular activities help me get into the Music Industry program? I want a career in music and I feel that USC’s B.S. in Music Industry in the best option.

For the BS in Music Industry, USC recommends taking Macro and Micro Econ prior to transferring, but they aren’t requirement. As of now I am planning on taking Macro in the fall and Micro in the winter or spring. Is this a good plan?

Thank you to whoever can help me with these questions! :D

lakerforever24 - most of the time you won’t hear a reply back until later from USC because you haven’t finished your remaining prereqs. In your case, you might receive a Spring Grade Request (SGR) somewhere around August, I’m guessing. By the time you finish your spring semester with calculus completed, then you will recieve a reply about admissions’ decision.

You should’ve finished the calc prereq prior spring for Haas. I’ve heard that a tenative finishing of a prereq can really hurt your chances because Haas is sooooo selective. Good luck anyways.

I have a Marshall question, something I’ve always been curious about since last year, despite the fact that I am not applying for Marshall this year, but will be trying to get into CSUN’s accounting program…

I noticed that all business students must take Business 305 if they haven’t taken the intro accounting courses already… so I wanted to know, does BUAD 305, Abridged Core Concepts of Accounting, I believe, go over what you learned in those first 2 introductory courses, like a refresher?

Thank you!

whoa Iam confused!?
so i graduated H.S. in '09 and i currently began college at a local C.C.C., i plan on transferring to U.S.C. as a sophomore after one year…

should i already begin the first part of the application?

can anyone help me clear this up ?..please?=)

Part I is due Oct 15 but is optional. There’s no reason not to do it if you’re planning on applying though.

can anyone tell me from personal experience how generous USC is with financial aid and scholarships? just in general, since it is different for everybody. basically my parents only make like $60,000 (about the cost of usc tuition) and i have completed 35 units so far in one yr and will have 59 completed by the end of this semester with a 4.0 gpa. i don’t know if it is even worth the effort to apply to marshall since it’s too expensive for me

So I’m a Sociology major, and I just now noticed that Soc majors are required to take a third semester of foreign language. I have 2 semesters of Spanish, and at my CCC, the 3rd semester is only offered in the Fall, and that class is already full. However, I will still have 60 units when I transfer. Will they accept me if I have all other prereqs for transfer and my major besides that? Or is not having the 3rd semester an issue? I know that they want you to take some of the gen ed requirements at USC (since they make more money off you that way), so I don’t think it should be an issue, but I want to be sure. Thank you!

lakerforever that is semi-true. Sometimes they will accept you under certain conditions and if they do ask for a spring grade request you could end up hearing back close to mid-july, but most people heard back before that last year

Just curious how I am right now for my USC Application.

I just finished my freshman year at the University of Arizona, was in the honors college. Left Arizona for CC this year in So Cal to take classes for USC and other UC Schools that I am going to apply to. It basically has become my life dream to attend USC. My average GPA is 3.64 right now with a 4.0 transferable GPA to USC (this is before my first semester at CC so the GPA should go up a little before application).

I have completed 33 units and will have completed 64+ units before I would transfer into USC. I will have completed all the pre-requirements for my number one major at USC, Marshall.

Have a really good resume when it comes to EC, Community Service and Jobs.

At first glance, how do I stack up? Should I declare another major choice on my Part 1 Application that might be easier to get into (since Marshall is very competitive?).

Thanks.

Guys, another public policy question…

It won’t hurt if I have a movie studio internship, right? I mean, I am applying for a Warner Bros internship within the next few days, and am thinking, it can only help my app, right? Because my concern is that SPPD is a school of PUBLIC policy, but my passion is for film, so I’m thinking… they’ll like the fact that I volunteered in something I am passionate about, no?

I hope I am making sense, lol… and I hope someone can help me clear this up!

In other words, will the admissions people like the fact that I have an entertainment internship under my belt, despite the fact that I am applying to a school for PUBLIC policy?

If you took financial/managerial acct at your previous school, you enroll in 305 which is a review. If you haven’t taken the intro acct courses listed above, you will probably have a lower chance of getting in and if you do will have to take buad 250a and 250b

why would you want to study something not your first choice

Because my main priority is to get into the school then deal with what I want to study after that.

i wouldnt want to risk it as ive heard its hard to transfer into an impacted major at any school. youd be better off putting undelcared instead of a diff major imo

Can you even choose that on the Part 1 Application? Wouldn’t it be bad to say you are undeclared? I was under the impression USC was looking for students who knew what they wanted to do.

AirUpThere15 - Not really. I remember seeing some others on the 2009 thread who were accepted as undeclared.

Ohh cool. Last question.

If I have more than 30 units, does USC even look at your HS and SAT stuff? I had like a 3.3 in HS and a 1720 on my SAT, both low scores compared to my current college GPA. USC is asking for the test scores in my application, do I just provide anyways and assume they don’t look at them?

AirUpThere15-
once you have 30 or more units they make the decision based on your college record, but you should still enter the scores and send in your H.S. transcripts… good luck

i have a question…
so its my first semester in college and im planning on applying to usc to enter as a sophomore.
i dont have a college gpa yet since im barely starting, should i just leave the gpa part on part 1 blank ? would leaving it blank look bad ? i also had a low gpa in H.S. can i retake the sat and enter that score if its better ?
