USC 2010 Transfer Thread

So I have yet another question: I’m definitely going to need financial aid if I get in and actually go to USC next year. However, numerous sources are telling me that it’s really difficult to get housing as a junior transfer. And if I try to get off campus housing that isn’t owned by USC, will financial aid cover it? The thing is, I’m not going to be 18 yet when I transfer, and my mom doesn’t have the credit nor the money to sign a lease for me. So what should I do? I really can’t commute from home.

@jsw1188 - A pre-req for transfer to Marshall is Calculus I. That is what prevented me from applying last year so I had to wait a year to complete it. I would call and check with Marshall what it would mean to have a W for that course instead of completing it when you apply.

i have a question about WRIT 130 that mayyyyy not be answered yet.

so at my college, my writing req is fulfilled by my AP eng lang score, meaning i don’t have to take any more english or writing classes ever again.

now, i’m hearing from a post above that i don’t have to take any writing courses to even be considered for admission? i can take WRIT 130 at USC? if so, my life would be so much easier.

i asked this to my USC rep guy and he still hasn’t emailed me back. ugh.

@likeme…
what is your major, because WRIT 130 may not be required.
so i guess to answer your question it all depends on your major. for example if you are applying to Marshall like me then it is a pre req. and you need it.

can anybody chance me as well? i would greatly appreciate it :)

Current school: UCSC
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.5 (Fall quarter I did horrible A+, C+, C+. But ever since I’ve been getting straight A’s or A-'s, especially in upper division econ classes) deans honor list spring quarter.
ECs: summer internship at fortune 500 company, treasurer of organization, volunteering, clubs

when is the earliest i can transfer, I am currently a freshman at Ohio State, I have 20 quarter credit hours from AP scores here i was just wondering when was the earliest i could apply for a transfer WITH HS GRADES AFFECTING THE DECISION and WITHOUT HS GRADES AFFECTING THE DECISION

MidnightGolfer - Most upper division economics courses will unfortunately not be transferrable to USC. I would recommend raising that overall GPA much higher.

Rsmattu - The earliest you can be able to transfer to USC is for the Fall 10’ semester for sophomore standing (in your case). In order to be eligible to not have your HS grades affect your decision, you will have need to complete at least 45 quarter units (equivalent to 30 semester units). Having lower than that 45 quarter amount will have your HS records be an impact on your decision for transfer.

i wont have 45 quarter credits (without my AP scores, I plan on getting 18 this quarter, 20 the next, and 20 in the next, so with AP scores i will have enough by the end of my second quarter) until the end of this school year, so should I apply now with this batch of kids applying to the fall 2010 quarter?

tbibbs-

I’m trying to get into PR but probably going to apply for Communications.
I’m assuming it’s required for me but they list it under Recommendations, not Requirements…hmmmmmmm.

likeme-
if it’s not a pre-req then you can take it at USC. i would sitll check iwth your admission counselor, but i’m pretty sure tahts right

@Rsmattu - As long as you have the required amount by the end of this academic year. They’ll of course want to see transcripts with the grades from all the classes you take in the spring.

I have checked with USC and they said 3 of my upper divs would transfer over (only have 4 so far but taking one more this quarter).

Hey, I would like to apply as a junior transfer to Marshall Business School. My major is Business Administration:

I am an international student from Europe (Austria), 20 years old
I will have a 3.79 GPA at the end of this semester
I will finish all the prerequisites and all the GE courses this fall semester.

Extracurriculars:
I was the captain of the Volleyball team in my school for 2 years.
I have done six months of research at Cedar’s Sinai Medical Center.
I have a good letter of recommendation.
I have worked for one year at my parent’s Business and won a major client with my marketing strategy.

Even though they say the main GPA for Transfer stuents was 3.69 last year… I am still a little worried. Do you guys think that I have a chance to get in this fall?

I also have another question:
Is it true that USC does not care whether you are a Cal resident, US citizen or an international student. I am able to afford the tuition so financial aid is not necessary.

Thanks in advance

Franz

this is ridiculous. my USC rep hasn’t answered any of my emails and i sent 2 of the same emails already.

you know who you are.
im going to bombard you with calls now.
or maybe it just isn’t meant to be?

likeme- lol I’ve also had the same thing happen to me when I emailed the dean of the chem department :(

Are you sure your admissions counselor isn’t out recruiting? I just emailed mine and immediately received an automated email telling me he would be out of his office until Nov. 2. Maybe yours is out too.

Just reposting my question just in case someone can help. [:

So I have yet another question: I’m definitely going to need financial aid if I get in and actually go to USC next year.
Also, should we apply for housing before we’re accepted (I know that they recommend applying for financial aid before you’re accepted)?

On campus housing is difficult for juniors even if you’re not a transfer, my gf’s a junior and she had to find off campus housing. She has a very generous scholarship/financial aid package so she’s paying under $10k a year but as far as I know, her housing isn’t covered this year.

does USC give out more merit-based scholarships or need-based financial aid?

I got an e-mail saying we’d get something in the mail from admissions… I have yet to recieve it! Anybody gotten it by any chance?
