USC 2010 Transfer Thread

archieg - I got a brochure in the mail from Marshall about some info. I’m sure the USC transfer application hardcopy will be in the mail soon probably.

Are you able to submit your application right now? I looked at USC’s website and it doesn’t indicate a specific date we are able to apply, just deadlines. Thanks.

ceebaby_8 - last time I checked, I wasn’t able to submit the application because the input of the grades and classes weren’t up.

makebank24
i have the same problem as you, do you know why we can’t access the grades/ classes?

@makebank24 and @tbibbs I actually called usc about this. They told me it isnt supposed to be accessible since we are transfer applicants. That section only opens up for freshmen. As far as reporting grades, sending your transcript is supposed to cover that.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I just need some reassurance. Im a mechanical engineering transfer to Viterbi. Right now, im not doing too hot in my chemistry class. Im pulling a high B; Which I hope will become an A if i can just get my studies straight. What are my chances at acceptance with a 3.78(assuming a B in chem) or a 3.98(if i do get an A)? I will have all pre-reqs done by the spring. I also have some pretty strong ECs, but nothing really related to my major. 2380 on the SATs if that helps.

@SFwarrior25
3.78-3.98 is at the competitive level. If you look around the transfer admission threads, you can see that past applicants have been accepted with GPAs as low 3.5. It all comes down to the popularity of the major, the amount of GE’s/Pre-reqs completed, credits, ECs, etc.

Your GPA stands competitive regardless if you get that A or B. Search through the forum and find statistics for the accepted applicants of Viterbi Fall 2008 and 2009. Compare your statistics with theirs and find your weak points.

Just thought I’d say hello to everyone in this thread as well.
Applying to USC-CLAS-Sociology for fall 2010. See you guys around!

i submitted my part 1 app before the deadline, but my credit card still hasn’t been charged yet…i got the email confirmation but nothing in the email either…anyone else have this problem? im afraid that since my CC hasnt been charged they didn’t get my app?

My card wasn’t charged for a week or two after my part 1 had been submitted. The paper notification did take some time as well to come through the mail.

If you got the email confirmation that should be enough.

brianlee - it took sometime for me to get my credit card charged for part 1. Got both confirmations through mail and email.

Hey everyone I had a real quick question. I’m hoping to transfer to USC for Fall 2010 and I was just wondering how much alumni is considered? Both of my parents went to USC.

hey brianlee, just noticed you’re applying as a sociology major. What type of gpa do you have? I was thinking about applying for the same major but i heard it’s in high demand so it might be a bit tougher to get accepted.

@ceebaby

I currently have a 4.0 with 19 credits taken. This however is likely to go down this semester. Statistics is kicking my ass right now.

Don’t be discouraged on applying with sociology. From what I have seen, CLAS (The school which houses sociology) is a bit more lenient/forgiving with transfers. Can’t seem to find the threads, but many accepted transfer students for fall 2009 were accepted to CLAS with undecided majors and GPAs as low as 3.6.

I do not think sociology is an impacted major at USC and does not even come close to the competitiveness of majors such as business. (But I don’t know for sure!)

If USC wants you however (high enough GPA, E/Cs, all that good stuff), keep in mind they admit spring students from the pool of fall applicants.

I know USC says they don’t require SAT scores for transfer applicants who have 30 units or more, but if I have a really good SAT score would it help to list it? Or would they really not care at all?

@arcade I don’t think it hurts to list it.

kia- alumni isn’t weighed heavily anymore. just focus on getting the best grades possible.
cee- don’t worry, i highly doubt sociology is in ‘high demand’. i barely know any soc majors here. just try to raise your gpa as high as you can and write a bomb ass essay. you’ll be fine

I’m currently a freshman at Pepperdine University looking to transfer for Fall 2010. I have not yet decided what career path I would like to take, but as of now, I am on the Business Administration path. However, I understand that the Marshall school is highly competitive to get into. I also found out that the Business Calc class I am currently enrolled in here does not transfer over and fulfill their Calculus pre-reqs. Does anybody have a recommendation as far as what school/major I should apply to that would give me the best opportunity to be accepted? Also, should i register for the Spring Calc 1 class here? It seems like a risk because it is a lower level course than my current Business Calc class and I assume it would be a waste if I did not get in to SC.

Do you have a higher chance of getting into SC depending on major? Maybe this is a really stupid question, but what I mean is, do you have a better chance of getting in if your major isn’t in high demand, or will they just reject you if they don’t want you even if your major isn’t pretty open. I’m a philo major with a 3.82 currently (hopefully it doesn’t drop, but I don’t know yet), and I have no ECs, but since I’m a philo major, would I have a better chance with a lower gpa than say, a business major? Sorry if this is a really stupid question or something!

Wakery,
If business administration is your than apply there :slight_smile: I highly recommend that you look all the pre-reqs for Marshall and figure out what classes at Pepperdine fulfill those courses. Since it is still fall you still have time to fulfill those prereqs during the Spring semester. Make sure you get all those courses in Spring if you plan for applying for fall. I had the exact same experience with my business calc class. Gluck

I know Dec. 1 is the final deadline for Cinematic Arts and Music, but does anyone know if Chem has the same deadline? I looked everywhere and I just wanna make sure I’m not overlooking anything.
