USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I had my JC send in my transcripts 3 weeks ago and they still don’t have them. Should I just ask for another official copy and this time fax it in myself?

How long is the usual process time?

@holy Sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes it takes longer. I wouldn’t worry too much about it - as far as I know if they don’t have it by 2/2 they will contact you, but it won’t impact your application. If you want piece of mind it doesn’t hurt to fax it.

@bingo yea… unfortunately it will not transfer over to fulfill the writing category but as elective credit, USC stresses on English courses and developing writing in college, you will get credit for your AP Lit courses but they will not fulfill the writing requirement… yea that is a real bummer. Unless you’re not applying to Marshall or some other major that REQUIRES the writing courses to be finished by the time you apply or during the end of the year when you are applying. You should’ve tried to research your articulation agreement with your college and USC. Here it is, you can confirm it by going to this link: [USC ARR : Articulation : Advanced Placement Exams](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/apexams.html)
Sorry, about this, but just try to plan ahead next time.

@holy I would agree with Amorrison, you could fax it in if you don’t have a peace of mind, but just so you know, today when I turned my transcripts/letter of recs into the admissions office at USC the lady told me it takes 2 weeks to process (prolly cause there are sooooo many applicants) and they will probably change your status online and mail you a confirmation I believe, once they have received and processed your transcripts. So upon the arrival of your transcripts, it will take an additional 2 weeks to process, so I would just wait a little, or you can fax it in, or call and confirm with them if they received it. Calling would be the best option in my opinion.

USC just wants our transcripts to be postmarked by February 1, right?

@xdzzzrawr-I’m pretty sure all majors require you take at least one college writing course before transferring. Marshall requires two.

What’s USC’s policy on double transferring. Suppose I transfered into CLAS and then decided I wanted to transfer into SCA, would I be allowed to do this?

PS- I’m a sophomore transfer

@Orson, I think you would have to re-apply to SCA, but I could be wrong about that.

You do have to reapply, but I was wondering whether or not I would be allowed to apply to SCA even if I already transferred from an outside institution. I know NYU forbids this with any of their schools

I don’t know, sorry!

Did anyone else just get a School of Policy, Planning and Development newsletter from USC? I didn’t apply to that program so I was surprised to just get it. Wondering if they just send it out to all applicants (they didn’t last year)?

AMorrison, I got one too… and I felt special for a second! lol

I applied to SPPD, and am very nervous about it! (Read my previous posts for that! lol)

@OrsonSwells - You are correct in that NYU forbids this however USC does not have it spelled out on this website anywhere and I’ve read in past transfer threads about people claiming they have done internal transfers after transferring into CLAS first. It is possible however I would assume it is more difficult than transferring directly into the major.

Just reread my short answers and I’m freaking out about them. I don’t know if it’s what they want.

Hey all…

Did any of you guys have trouble with the short answers? I’m just putting the finishing touches on my app and am struggling with the “Tell us about an activity that’s important to you and why.” I talked about the activity most significant to me in my essay and am struggling to come up with something else.

I’m just a simple guy- I like school, learning, exercise, reading ect. I haven’t done a whole lot of volunteer work or anything interesting like that!

I want to keep everything true to life and I definitely don’t want to make something up to sound like I’m sucking up! Looking for some insight! Please HELP

Talk about your exercise and why its important to you. I don’t know just throwing ideas out there.

@ mxbile yea i’m in the same boat as you but for that question i used the first time i won a debate trophy, because i felt so ordinary all my life, i was able to finally accomplish something. And with that first accomplishment, everything else followed with more trophies and insight into knowledge or w/e, just try and find something memorable if you’re trying to portray yourself as an average joe and how maybe in one instance you stepped it up, i really dont know since I don’t know you personally or know your life experiences.

Thanks for the help… I’m not trying to convey that I’m just the “Average Joe” but I mean my life is pretty cliche for a student I would say. I go to school, get good grades, go to work and just do the “normal” things.

I am thinking of talking about once I quit racing motocross, I began teaching/mentoring a good friend of mine who was an up and comer… And just kind of discuss how I learned to like teaching. What do you think?

Chance my friend

4.0 gpa-hunter college-urm

18 credits- fall

6 credits- winter session

18 credits- fall

24 credits by the time of application

42 credits overall

major- english

hs stats- 2.79

sat- 2280/2400

ecs
Theatre company
dance club
senator student gov

So…We don’t have to annotate in the application the current and future courses we plan to take? I take it they will see IP on the college transcript.

The only problem I see with that is I registered late and I am currently waitlisted for 3 classes in the spring. Will waitlisted classes still show as in progress on a transcript, or will USC think I am only taking the two classes I am currently registered for?

@mxbile131 - I was in the same boat as you so I end up talking about something considered absolutely ordinary that is an important daily activity for myself. Talk about anything that you try to do daily/weekly and why it is important and beneficial to you. This could be trying new recipes for dinner, exercising to relieve stress, gardening, sports, volunteering, tutoring, whatever. If you enjoy teaching, do you work as a TA? Talk about how you enjoy facilitating debate and helping your fellow students learn.

@brianlee - For the Marshall supplement it asks if any of the pre-reqs are in progress/completed and what the grade is for them. For my Calc course I listed the grade as “IP” for in progress however they should make sense of this when they see the transcript. Do those waitlisted courses show up as IP on your unofficial transcript currently?
