if we are transfering to marshall as juniors with more than 60 units, do we still need to stay at usc for 3 yrs or only 2? because they’re program is 3 yrs…anyone know?

lakerforever24: Depends on how many of your credits transfer and how many remaining courses you need to take at USC/marshall to qualify for graduation. Keep in mind you have to take the CAT IV and VI GE courses at USC. I imagine some do it in 3 and some do it in 2.
Keep in mind a lot of the marshall degree courses are taught over the summer as well.

well said kulakai. Only 64 semester units will transfer over, the rest will be subject credit taken if they are USC transferrable. But to answer the whole 3 year thing, it really all depends on the coursework you could be able to finish on time to meet the units and requirements for your major for graduation. If admitted, you will be taking a Business Writing Course, Business Statistics, Intro to Marketing, 4 Emphasis Courses (if you decide to only take 1 emphasis), Intermediate Microeconomics, and the 2 catergory courses.

Well you’re supposed to be conscious with the classes you choose to transfer with and plan ahead to fulfill EVERY SINGLE GE requirement that you can so that you can stay with the game. However, as mentioend by the above posts, you should also take summer courses if you want to graduate in 2 years if admitted as a junior. I am applying to enter in as a junior as well so I have panned accordingly with the USC’s articulation guide with my university (University California Riverside) to see which classes I can take at my university that fulfill USC’s requirements. Also for Marshall you need to make sure you take Macro/Micro Econ, Business Calc, the Writing requirement.

By the way I visited USC today because my friend goes there and I helped him move in, and let me tell you, the campus is truly gorgeous so apply/study well! It’s truly a great school.

zdzzzrawr…
no doubt! (about the last part) my girlfriend moved in today too, unfortunately i couldnt go, but i am going down soon to visit!!–kinda worked out i wanna continue family tradition and be 3rd generation and she wanted to go too. nicest campus i have been to.

Looks like there’s a real friendly group of hopeful transfers this term. I, too, am looking to transfer into Marshall as a sophomore during the Fall '10 term. I’m going to be a freshman at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA this fall, and hope to complete this year strongly. I wish you all the best of luck, and look forward to being an active part of this thread.

helllo everyone… do you guys know if i need calculus 2 to transfer as an internaional relations/global business major ? i was thinking getting a big internship during the spring semester since i am almost down with my classes vut i did not take calculus 2 .
i would appreciate any advices!! thanks

@monaco24: Here is the IR home page on the USC site: http://college.usc.edu/sir/

Click on undergrad programs, then on IR Global Business and scroll down for admissions requirements. As you can see they only require Calc 1.

thank you Kulakai.
about the profile for this major, is it good to be extremely international ( family all over the place, raised under different cultures and beliefs, travel a lot, double nationality, multi-languages speaker) ?

When applying to Marshall, does it hurt to not have a grade for calculus? I will be applying but by the time I send in my transcripts I will only be taking calculus and will not have an official grade to send in.

rayrun50 - It might hurt your chances for admission because you haven’t received a grade for a major prereq to Marshall. But if they see that you have potential as a transfer then they’ll send you a SGR (Spring Grade Request) to see the grades you’ve received.

Correct - If you have a high GPA and record of getting A’s in the other prereqs then I don’t think it will matter too much as they know you’ll have to send in Spring Grade Request.

Hey everyone, another applicant for Fall 2010 here! Also going to be a freshman in college this upcoming Fall quarter/semester. Didn’t make it in high school, but maybe after one year things will be different :)

Does anyone know if chances vary/if my application is impacted if I’m applying from a 4 year private university? I would suspect that most of the applicants are not in the same position as I am.

For those sophomore applicants with concerns regarding credits:

Hello Kishan,

This means that you need to have a combined total of 30 units from both completed and in progress work. As long as you have 30 units by the end of the spring semester, we will review your college work. Credit from AP exams does not count toward this 30 unit count.

The best advice I can give you is to make sure that you complete all of your requirements equivalent to the following courses at USC: Writing 130, Math 118 or 125, Economics 203 and 205. Also, be sure to work really hard and do your best in each of these courses.

Thanks so much KHPAtel for the information regarding credits, there has been a lot of confusion regarding the required 30 to transfer!

Hey future Trojans, another applicant for this year. I hope to transfer to USC’s School of Policy, Planning, and Development(SPPD). This is going to be my second year at a JC and I hope on transferring out with roughly 59 units. I don’t think I have high hopes into getting into SC, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

My current GPA is 3.36, I am currently treasurer-elect of my local honor society (Phi Theta Kappa), I have tons of work experience (I currently work roughly about 50 hours a week during summers, and 20 hours during school semester)- I help my parents manage their apartment units near Downtown LA, accounting work for their business, and sales at their store- I have nearly 100 hours of community service, and recently came back from a study abroad program in China. I speak 3 languages- Chinese (Chaozhou and Mandarin), Cambodian, and English.

This semester I’ll be taking:
Bio 9(not sure what the equivalent is at USC, but this is for my IGETC.)
Econ. 2 (ECON205)
Socio. 1 (SOCI200)
Engl. 2 (WRIT130)

Good luck to everyone!

yes i have been to USCs campus about 3 times now and i fell in love with it instantly. the area might not be too good, but it’s only 5 minutes from staple center! i really want to go to USC but the tuition costs as much as my household’s income. therefore, i’m focusing on haas (even tho it’s harder to get in, it’s cheaper) and UCLA for polisci.

Hey prospects I wanna try and go in for Fall '10 too.
Currently, I got a 4.0 GPA. Took 2 sems of Foreign Language (+ 2 yrs in high school)
I’ll probably be done with most of the core requirements by next Spring
I’m thinking about majoring in anything East Asian under the College of L, A & S

Is this department very competitive? So-so?

Good luck to all of you!

My pleasure HT9. Glad I could help clear things up. So who’s looking to transfer to Marshall for Fall '10?

I was considering Marshall, but I fell in love with the with real estates after managing a few properties. Anyone else considering SPPD?
