@trojans17 thanks for your help! sad to hear you won’t be appealing, but i might be transferring as well if things don’t go as planned! we can motivate each other throughout that process. we’ll end up at USC not matter what! :D

@phantasmagoric

Thanks for catching my mistake and sorry about the misinformation. I actually meant that my classmate was on the waitlist and that he was “appealing” to get off it(though I understand it’s two different processes). My point on writing a lively letter coupled with highlighting new achievements still stands.

@2016collegegirl yes i think support is really important, i’ll definitely still stay on this forum and i’m going to be really excited if any of you get in on appeal! i’m sad i’m not appealing too, because i’ll always have that “what if” thought…but my parents really don’t think it’s an option financially at this point. anyways, feel free to send me your letter when you finish if you need any thoughts i sure hope so! i’m going to work really hard next year to make my transfer application as good as possible.

I called admissions to ask about transferring and it’s pretty simple. If you have a good GPA then you are in. She said the average is 3.7 and the higher it is the more likely you’re in. Focus on GPA!

Hi all!

I am certainly no authority on appeals, though I admit I was so worried S2 would get rejected that I had the appeal all written in my head. (Yeah, I know…I need help!)

Anyway, here are my impressions:

A “wait list” is for schools like WashU and Northwestern U, where the applicant is academically qualified for the school, but they think the student is either not interested or “too good” — shooting for an ivy.

A “spring admit” at USC is for kids who they want at USC, either because they a legacies or have a compelling background, but they don’t want their lower-than-average stats throwing off USC’s fall admit stats.

I would rather have a rejection with an opportunity to appeal, than be on a wait-list. (You may have been rejected because you were “too good”, maybe because you didn’t show enough interest or maybe because you simply weren’t qualified.) But this is your opportunity to make your case. And I have to imagine they are impressed by kids that really want to be at USC. Humbly ask them to consider your appeal, make them know how much you want to be a part of the Trojan family (with anecdotes if oossible) and let them know what you can bring to the Trojan family.

Good luck and FIGHT ON!

(Hint: research the history of USC’s name “Trojan” and the meaning of “Fight On” and tie that into your willingness to fight on in your quest for USC.)

Disclaimer: I don’t know anything about appeal and could be way off on this.

Can anyone scan me the FAQ sheet, I can’t seem to find mine. Do I just write a one page single space appeal or are there other things I need to include. And what is the address I send it to? Thanks :D

I called admissions and to submit the paper you have to log on to USC connect and go to application documents and in there you can select to appeal and upload the document

really? I remember reading the FAQ sheet and it had an address on it?

Well there are options, you can send it in by mail but you have to make sure it gets there in time. Or you can walk in with the application in hand it to them, or do it electronically ( which is probably the easiest and instantaneous) by using USConnect

Do you think it would be bad to mention another school you got into in your appeal? For instance, I applied to the School of Theatre at USC and was rejected, but I have been accepted to NYU Tisch, which is actually a much better (in the opinion of the majority of people) and more prestigious theatre program, however I prefer USC as a whole. I don’t want to “boast” about it or say anything that may come off as negative, but what if I kind of slipped it into my appeal in a modest way… for example, “At the moment, I will be attending NYU Tisch for theatre. However, I still believe USC is a much better fit for me…” or something along those lines?

Is it bad to go over the one page limit for the appeal?

@seets3000 I wouldn’t think it’s a good idea to do that. I mean, yeah NYU Tisch is good and may be better than USC, but I’m not sure that USC would think so. I don’t think they’d like any effort to slightly make them jealous. But then again, that’s only my opinion. But congrats on NYU Tisch, great program!

I’m writing my statement too! My dad is an alumnus from USC graduate school. Does it help with my undergraduate application? should I focus on my dad (what he did when he studied in USC) in the statement??
I’m so confused:(
btw, is it one page single space or double spaces??

@corn0330 it is one page single spaced. my counselor said using 10 pt font is okay, so my appeal ended up being fairly long

corn, the value of legacy in these decisions is minimal to none. And it is generally reserved for UG alums, if it has any effect at all. So, it may be best to focus on what you bring to USC, your talents, your passions, your plans for the future, plus any new news–awards, higher gpa in 3rd quarter?, honors, ECs. Best of luck to all appealers.

So what colleges are you guys accepting as you wait for USC to make their final decisions?

MY PARENTS ARE LETTING ME APPEAL TO USC AFTER ALL!!! So happy for the second chance. But now I’m like a week behind in time…gonna be working on my letter like crazy these next two days! How’s everyone else coming along? :)

Mine is all done but I’m going to run it through my parents tomorrow as a last minute grammar check! GratZ!!!

Also question: can appeals still be uploaded to USConnect on the 11th (until midnight PST) or does it have to be uploaded by the 11th as in, by midnight on the 10th? I am waiting to hear back from a music scholarship, so that’s why I ask

i’m appealing too, pretty nervous!
i’m appealing for entry into arch school so do you think they would let me submit an additional portfolio of new art?
