@Frankie22 @maytheforce I know one of one student (SoCal) who got invited to interview for Trustees for Screenwriting, and a student (Colorado) who got invited to interview for FTV Production. I hate to say it but if you haven’t received anything at this point, chances are you probably didn’t receive anything
How to check the portal and where do I find the USC ID?
Thanks
@maytheforce same here. Wonder if anyone got a scholarship for Film & TV Production
@pterosprite
It doesn’t mention deans.
I’m NMSF and it mentioned that I am still up for that scholarship and all others not mentioned (so, deans as well)
@pterosprite I’m not a NM anything, but I got the same rejection email that doesn’t mention dean’s
Remember - if the program you applied for absolutely requires an interview for admission, like the Iovine and Young Academy, then you will be automatically “rejected” from the merit round. You will be given an invite to interview by the end of this week, and the school has its own merit aid to give out later.
So excited, my son is a finalist for the Presidential Scholarship; this is his first college decision received so pretty cool. We toured USC last spring and loved it. Now fingers crossed that he is a scholarship recipient so we can afford it.
I’m also interested to know if people who got the rejection letter are still in running for deans. It sounded like earlier some posters had received packets with acceptance but no scholarship info and the assumption was that they would be deans scholarship recipients? Why is this so confusing???
Yay for you @Spicykins! Congrats. What are your stats? My S got no scholarship letter; 2250 sat, 35 act, 3 aps last year (all 5s) taking 6 this year. Strong ECs but mostly in the musical arena. Applied to Marshall.
Yea can people who got Dean’s verify the assumption?
Yes, you can still get the Dean scholarships with the Jan. email/letter/portal stating that you are not considered for major scholarships.
My S got the Dean last year in the same situation.
@co4usc2016 did he get the dean’s scholarship in March?
@XCjunior2016, yes he got dean in late March.
Finally got the email. No scholarship for me! I’m not surprised.
I got the update and no scholarship for me either! Good luck to everybody who got it!
@co4usc2016 thanks so much for the info! And just to be clear, none of the students will receive a dean’s scholarship in January if they got the no scholarship email?
@pterosprite, I am not sure what your question meant.
But, this is how I understand the Jan. letter with acceptance:
- If you get the Jan. letter, you are accepted by USC;
- If you also get the info. for interviews for Full/Half scholarship, you are going to a interview in March/April;
- If you did not get any info. about Full/Half scholarship, you should get Dean's (and a later notification about Dean's);
Jan. letter/email stating that you are not considered for Full/Half scholarships:
- You are still being considered for admission (notification will be in late March);
- If admitted, you can still get Dean's scholarships and other smaller scholarships;
- If you are NMF and admitted to USC and name USC as first choice, you get half scholarship;
- You can be rejected.
@co4usc2016 yeah, people were just curious because the email only states that you are not being considered for Stamps/Mork/Trustee/Presidential and does not mention the Dean’s, for which acceptances have also been sent in the mail and technically still puts you out of the running for the big four, but with an acceptance in January. My mail hasn’t come since Thursday because of the snow.
@tennessee1 My D got the same and we’re in TN as well. Your son is also NMSF?
Everyone asking about Deans, please read and re-read @co4usc2016 email! It is great. People that got the package with no scholarship letter in the past have gotten the Dean’s and info usually comes on that within a week. There will still be a few Dean’s, some of the NMFs and smaller scholarships in March. But the big chunk has gone out. There is obviously hope for those March awards, but I think it can be best to put them in the back of your mind and see them as a huge surprise if/when they come rather than counting on them and being tortured another two months, and disappointed all over again if they don’t.
Congrats to those that are in! The numbers applying before Dec 1 are huge this year. 1200 got the package. 29,0000 (TWENTY-NINE THOUSAND) did not. So if you got it, you should feel great, if you didn’t, you should know it is super competitive, and you have done your best! If this is your first student applying to this school, it can be shocking (and sad) to not get a package, for both them and you. A lot of people were sure they would get it and didn’t, there is a “marketing” problem that exists within all the buzz of these scholarships that sets up many for huge disappointment. I wish people knew the numbers 1200 out of 30,000 when they applied, but that isn’t out there at the beginning of the process for most.
Obviously, there are a lot of 2200+, 4.0+ with lots of APs and leadership in that 29,000 that did not get a package. It is so much more than stats as mentioned before, they are trying to fill a profile they want to have based on all kinds of things. Grades, scores, demographics like race and where someone is from, URM, first gen, majors, varying interests from ECs, international students, essays, recommendations - they consider so much more than the “main” obvious stuff when handing out packages. Bottom line, how they want to fill their class is out of your control. Your students should feel great for all their hard work these 4 years and look forward to admission from USC or other great schools! Some kids can feel pretty low during this time, remind them how fabulous they are the next few days to help them get through this.
There just aren’t enough scholarships as there are great kids!
