@catzxo The reason some students get asked to interview for the Pres when they are NMSF is because USC doesn’t control the NMF decisions. If they decided they really want to recruit the student, they will offer them the interview, early acceptance and Explore experience. This is not to say that they do not want the other NMSF applicants. They probably have pretty decent algorithms based on prior data to predict how much enticement is necessary. My D was invited to interview for Pres even though she was a NMSF at the time (several years ago)
Got in with from the Bay Area, finalist for Presidential scholarship, biomedical engineering. Super excited!
@camomof3 thanks for the info and that’s great for your daughter! Did she end up going to USC and if so, on one of the presidential options or did she get bumped up to full tuition? And lol, I’m sure they realize no “enticement” is necessary for my D, especially when they’re the number one film school in the world ! AKA, they already know she will use any NMF award she may receive with USC
I got into Viterbi AHHHHHH
I was really sad that I didn’t get a scholarship but it’s okay BECAUSE MY MIDTERMS ARE CANCELLED AND I DON’T HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW. Only four months to go, straight A’s and class rank going up! Maybe it wasn’t practical to hope for a scholarship, but it’s not the end of the world and there’s still regular acceptance!
And @glasshours congratulations!! You were in that little original group with me fretting anxiously, I’m glad one of us made it
@pterosprite – you’ll go far in life with that kind of positive attitude! Good for you!!
Got my package today in Orlando area…no specific scholarship info so guess I got deans! Congrats to all the finalists!
Wait is it true that if you applied to a program that requires an interview then you are automatically not considered for the Trustee/Presidential/Dean/etc scholarships?
Anyone got accepted into RHP here?
So if nothing has come yet and we are in So Cal does that mean a straight out rejection for admissions. I know 4 people in my area who applied and no one has heard anything
For anyone still stressing or feeling down about your applications, I read this blog called Sassy Common App Answers-- it takes the edge off some of the pressure we’re all feeling and I suggest you check it out! http://sassycommonappanswers.■■■■■■■■■■/
My favorite post is a response to a “Why do you want to go to Northwestern” prompt: “I want to go to Northwestern bc I want to be a wildcat, just like my idol, the one and only Troy Bolton.”
You should have an email and a letter in your portal if you haven’t been admitted early and selected to interview for the top scholarships @Mysonsdad. So no news may be good news for you. And no one has been denied admission yet. Final word on acceptance won’t happen until late March if you’re not accepted now.
Congrats to all who’ve been accepted already! I unfortunately got the no scholarship letter today, and I’m honestly extremely disappointed. 4.8 weighted GPA, 36 ACT, 1/300, probable National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar, All-State Men’s Volleyball player, editor of the newspaper, 300 hours of community service, U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Candidate, and more… Must have been insanely competitive. Just hoping for a Dean’s Scholarship in March or a NMF Presidential Scholarship, I definitely won’t be able to attend otherwise. Oh well, I’ll survive.
Just got in with Dean’s Scholarship (Yay!), does anyone know if the National Merit Scholarship would be added on to that to make 3/4 tuition or would it just be 1/2? Thanks!
no they’re not stackable @cccrazy2016
@riverbanks Where did you hear that?
@mysonsdad - If you didn’t receive a package, it means you are not in the running for the biggest scholarships, but you can still be accepted in the regular admission cycle in March. Portals have been updated to reflect these big scholarships. There is also a letter that went out for those that did not receive a scholarship. This can be found within the student’s you.usc. account, along with info if you did receive a scholarship. To end the wondering if something got lost in the mail, check the you.usc account.
Please note there will be some Deans (1/4) and smaller scholarships given out in March along with NMF’s that will be accepted and get 1/2 tuition. But the majority of the awards have gone out. No one has been rejected at this point.
@catzxo - sorry didn’t see you responded, I was a page behind posts when I replied. So said the same thing you did!
@DTRanger16 - sorry to hear that, it is amazing that many fabulous students like you don’t get the notice of the big scholarships. It is more common than people realize. But you will certainly get some great offers from other top schools as well, and will still probably get NMF from USC! Keep us posted. Good luck to you!
@collegecurious15 Yeah, those schools that require the interview can’t send out scholarship decisions because they would have to admit you…but you haven’t interviewed. So they have their own process of giving out merit aid allotted to them. You should hear by the end of this week for interview invites for programs.
@CADREAMIN, thank you and @catzxo for responding, the thing is, no one I know nor S has had their portal (you.usc.edu) change or received an email or a letter. Everything is the same as it was last week.
