@WWWard, great that your younger D could transfer to SCA and that she had a good first semester. Thanks for sticking around by the way. You and @CADREAMIN have a wealth of info since you collectively have something like six kids either going to or who attended USC! Did they try for the new Village? Do you know if they have apartments or just dorms in there?
@david5454, does your mail usually come that early at 9:30am in L.A. on a Saturday?
@Nomorelurker Thanks. And you’re welcome. My younger daughter is a little torn about housing. Her 3 current roommates are all graduating, so she needs to replace all 3 to remain there for next year. She has a freshman friend who wants to live there, so they have been looking for two other girls to live there. Since they have not found a willing pair yet (willing to have more space, full AC and better amenities for less money lol), each are applying for USC Housing now too as a potential back-up. Actually, they have had girls in mind, but many parents simply prefer having their kids within USC Housing vs private apartments. The village does have upperclassmen apartments, and they are each considering them… if need be.
@CA1543 FYI, We got the same financial aid letter with upcoming deadlines, and we submitted everything in November, so the letter appears to be a generic mass mailing to all applicants regardless of your FA status.
@CADREAMIN and @WWWard — My DS17 thought hard about USC (Viterbi) & really liked it when he visited twice. He had a nice half scholarship but he ended up at UPenn SEAS - pursuing electrical engineering and computer science. It is challenging but he likes it so far and is active in some fun ECs. We were torn but it has been helpful to have him only 2.5 hrs from home. Good luck to everyone!
omg, I didn’t realize that. Congrats on UPenn and having him that close - I’m sure that was wonderful this last semester. CSEE such a good way to go these days. Glad you checked in!
@CADREAMIN – it has been good as we have gotten to see him on short notice and easy to take the train. Once DS18 lands somewhere we’ll have more travel flexibility.
@WWWard, glad it’s working out for your two daughters at USC. They are lucky to have you as their dad. Hope they find the extra two roommates they are looking for. I read that only freshman in the honors program and some sophomores can live in the Village, plus some upper class juniors and seniors? How about grad students? Anyway, looks like a great addition.
It appears that nobody has posted about getting anything in the mail today. Seems the scholarships were NOT mailed yesterday. We can all relax until Tuesday. If letters go out on Monday, maybe we’ll hear some news from recipients on Tuesday. If not, guess it may be Wednesday after all. Rinse, repeat, rinse again…
I sent an email to my S18 admission advisor. I shared the “snapchat” response on the what, when, where thread. He would only confirm that the portal would be updated by the end of this coming week (Jan 25th). So the timeline of letters going out Tuesday (snapchat message) seems feasible.
Two or three snapchat replies does not a sample make. Plus there is the possibility that the student may be deliberately throwing the scent off of the actual date, or being told by higher ups to do so. I’d say 50/50 whether they go out tomorrow or Tuesday. Does not really matter to us, as the USPS is so unpredictable that either way, I expect mail to arrive Thursday at earliest. Monday vs Tuesday mailing might impact those in Southern CA more. Either way, I do believe the portal will update Friday, although 1am for the East Coast seems unnecessary!
@devon123 thank you for the Stat update…congratulations to your daughter. Honestly, I don’t even understand how a person can achieve such a high GPA for the weighted…My son’s gpa is high but not like that!! He does have a great ACT score, so maybe there is a chance…
