Is it just me or is is that the number of acceptances reported for day 1 SoCal seems pretty small?
Thanks totally didn’t see that!! @CADREAMIN
Is anyone else secretly hoping they won’t get in? My mom said she’ll let me be a flight attendant if i don’t get into usc and that’s my absolute dream job
What time do Decisions upload on the portal (GMT)???
Good luck to all my Bay Area people! USC is my dream school and I hope we all receive the news we’re hoping for! Good Luck!
After midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning Pacific Standard Time (PST). Supposed to be by noon that day, last couple years they updates between midnight and 1am - that’s when it starts and it takes awhile. Bulk within a couple hours, but it sputters along for several more hours - brutal for some.
Hello, does anyone know when the deadlines is or if it’s too late to submit my tax return information? Can I still do it now and will it affect the amount of aid/scholarships I get?
Accepted
Major: Computer Science
1320 SAT, 4.52 GPA
Hundreds of hours of community service, worked for my city, presidency of multiple clubs
Felt like I had strong essays and letters of rec. but I would not have submitted unless I thought they were good.
@Dovahkiin012200 , are you a URM?
Accepted into USC Marshall for Business Administration! Super stoked and can’t wait to attend in the fall
for one of my things on financial aid, they asked for my parents 2017 tax returns, but they still havent gotten them back yet so they couldnt upload anything to the portal so now the financial aid is saying its still ‘in review’. is there anything I should do? I still dont know if I even got in yet tho
@bogeyorpar I’m Chinese so I wouldn’t exactly call myself underrepresented.
Does anyone know when international students can expect to receive their packages?
Intl went out a couple days before reg decision. Sent DHL express. Canada already got some. Can take 2 days or two weeks. Just depends. Portals update after midnight Saturday night or Sunday morning so rely on that.
Congratulations @Dovahkiin012200 . Now we can’t accuse USC of discriminating against Asians. lol
@CADREAMIN I don’t know where that was stated but the USC admission counselor for my region (India) said that the packages were sent out on the same day for all applicants.
@plzacceptme2x5 congratulation! what’s your stats btw?
A word of advice for some of you who are waiting on your packages today. First, congrats to all of those students who did get a package yesterday. USC is a great school and I hope you will be able to attend.
For those who did not get a package yesterday, including @jj1999, who were in a one day zone… there is still hope. We went through this with Georgetown EA last December. We were in a 2 day zone and did not get the letter til 3rd day. Ultimately it was a disappointing deferral and we will go through the wait again next week for RD admission. This college process has been more stressful than I anticipated, even though my S fortunately did gain admission to USC in January, we must wait until March 27th for financial aid to determine if it will be a go. There have been deferrals and waitlists and still have to wait for two more decisions next week. This is not pleasant!
Although there are instances of USPS taking longer to deliver than their projections, I would estimate that it happens probably no more than 10% of the time (maybe more so at the end of the year holidays), unless extenuating circumstances like inclement weather as is expected in parts of the midwest this weekend. USPS states about 5% of their mail/packages is not reliable so there is always hope, especially if you are in a rural area. hat being said, prepare for rejection. I don’t say this as a pessimist but as a realist. 87% of very qualified well accomplished students will not be accepted to USC this weekend. The expectation should be, based on statistics, to not get the package. Recently, a postcard showed up on USPS for delivery that day and it did not arrive until two days later. If you did not get a package delivered on the projected day, there is no point asking whether others did get their package or not. The post office is not reliable, period. However, the odds are probably not good at this point. They were not good odds to begin with!
Hopefully you all have solid back up choices and/or safeties if you do not gain admission to USC. Meanwhile, anything is possible. Even not getting a package second day when the projected day was yesterday does not mean you are not in. Wwward’s second daughter did not get the package til the 4th day and found out via the portal that she was accepted. So if you are second day zone and you do not get the package today, it DOES NOT mean you were not admitted!!! There are always exceptions but for sanity sake, expect the worst and then be surprised if the best scenario happens. Anything is possible until you check your portal after midnight tonight and you will have your final answer. If the answer is that you did not get in, for which 87% of you will be the case, remember that it in no way reflects on your accomplishments to date. You can and will be successful elsewhere, if you choose to not make this the sole basis of your future happiness.
Finally, for those who do get a package, some of you will still be waiting on Financial Aid on March 27th to truly know whether your family will be able to make attendance possible. It can be very frustrating not knowing for sure, even if you do get admitted, whether you will be able to attend. All the anticipation and waiting can put a strain on both students and parents. In my view, the best way to approach this is to not put all of your eggs in one basket. There is no one perfect school. There are pluses and minuses for all choices, including that “dream” choice. I know of several students who thought a school was going to be one thing and ended up transferring to another school sophomore year or who found that the school they thought was a dream ended up not being the case. Some who did not get into their perceived “top choice” can and will end up very happy and do many great things at a school lower on their original list. It may sound cliche, but sometimes things do happen for a reason.
Some of you may end up at the most affordable option for your family, which may be a state public school or a school that offered more merit or financial aid than USC. There are many students who went on to their dream graduate school after working hard wherever they were as an undergrad. Your success will ultimately be not based on the school attended as an undergrad, but what you make of whatever school you will end up attending. If that happens to be USC, so be it. You will be able to “fight on” no matter where you go!
portals are updated tomorrow at noon.
Noon? What happened to midnight?
