@kevbostic There are no differences between the “regular” presidential scholarship and the NMF version, except that the interviewees of the “regular”version know they are accepted earlier and have the opportunity to get bumped up. There are many kids who have sort-of redundant presidential awards, who interviewed and who have NMF status. You should still have your son choose USC as his #1 NMC choice to get the extra 1k/yr sponsorship from USC.
@happyhappy53736 how do u know u got TTP? does it say it somewhere?
@SexyHippo yes they make it very clear
Accepted from Northern Virginia!
Is anyone aware of any official Admit groups as of now for finding roommates?
Accepted (Spring Semester)
Admitted for Human Bio at Dornsife
Gpa : 4.6 w 3.93 uw
SAT: 1290 (incredibly low, I know)
APs: hella like 12 . Passed all but 2
Mixed African American female and first generation student. Have killer ECs . Honestly, probably what saved me. Essays were ok, but I could’ve done better. Was a QuestBridge finalist, but didn’t get the full ride. Also, in state.
It also seems clear from some of the posts that USPS unfortunately remains unreliable. By their own admission, they only hit 95% of their targeted delivery dates for priority mail. That means up to 350 of the 7K packages mailed out on Thursday could have arrived or may arrive later than projected. It happened to my daughter last year, and it apparently happened again to a # of posters this year too. The good news received via the unexpected portal update reflecting admission is of course welcome for such an applicant. But USC’s chosen method of announcing admissions is simply angst ridden for way too many people. It should be updated in my opinion.
Congrats to those admitted to USC this year!!
Best of luck in finding the perfect college or university elsewhere for those who did face rejection. You were among 56K peers who did so… it is thus clearly not an indictment related to you, your accomplishments or readiness for college. USC simply had to make the tough choices of only selecting 13% out of 64K applicants… most of whom were likely very well-qualified as well.
For those receiving a TTP offer, here is a link to a thread on the topic detailing likely most of what you will need to know about such an offering…
And for those fortunate 8250 or so admitted… history shows that likely 63% of you will end up not enrolling at USC. So good luck with that decision. If it takes you elsewhere… good luck at your chosen college or university.
FA packages will likely post on the 27th or thereabouts. That will make the decision clearer for many families.
For those 3K or so that finally will choose to enroll at USC, the steps will become very clear and soon as to what you need to do… and USC will not be shy about updating you via email…
- post your commitment deposit / due by May 1st
- sign-up for an orientation session / the first opportunity to sign-up though will not be until around April 3rd.
- sign-up for housing. They will email you the date as to when you can first log-in, pay the $55 and do so.
FYI… Locating a potential roommate through the housing portal or facebook or CC or however and then agreeing on your housing preferences exactly the same and in the same order will really aid you in getting your first or second choice.
Any other questions… feel free to ask myself or @CADREAMIN
Fight On!
@SexyHippo yeah it says at the very end “your eventual enrollment at USC is of great interest to us, so I invite you to consider the Trojan Transfer Plan…”
So, my D got Spring Admit. Happy for her but definitely brings up a lot of questions and concerns. Other people have experience with this?
For Spring Admits, you may be able to learn more / have some questions answered via this thread…
For those admitted and willing to post your stats, etc., there is a thread for that too…
I have read multiple boards from multiple selective schools and I will state again I feel USC may be the most holistic of the schools with similar selectivity. Look at the mid 50 SAT scores as compared to others. The 25 is far lower and even the 75 is much lower than the 1580 and 1600 appearing at some selective schools. I would not dare guess what they are using to decide but my guess is they are reading the entire application like a story rather than simply glancing at the numbers on top. With this many applicants, no process could be perfect and I am certain many great applicants were passed over and some got in that maybe should not have but there is sadly some luck and chance involved. I do know that if you did not get in and channel your energy positively you will still reach your goal wherever you attend.
Has anyone received the International Freshman Academic scholarship or the FIRST robotics scholarship? Do these scholarship decisions come with the admission decisions?
@CADREAMIN @WWWard Thank you for all your help this year! While I may have never posted in USC threads until now I’ve definitely stalked the class of 2021 and 2022 threads and you have always been so informative and helpful!
I too was among the students that did not receive my acceptance package on the delivery date and assumed rejection (despite hearing stories of others that got in from 2021 after no mail, couldn’t get my hopes up). To my surprise, when I woke up this morning and opened the portal, I found an acceptance to Marshall. So thankful and excited to be joining the Class of 2022.
My portal is still showing the weird preappkkcant glitch, any suggestions?
I dropped my AP Physics class at semester, but I’m still in four other AP Classes this year. Do you think they’d rescind my admissions decision because of this? I feel like they wont because they’re pretty holistic- but I just wanted to ask… @CADREAMIN
@Tor1727 You’re welcome. And of course Congrats! I so wish USPS was more reliable… or that USC would simply evolve a bit… but glad it worked out for you. Better late than never I guess… Marshall is a great program.
Agree, @JohnGaltIII USC does seem rather unique in that regard.
@rivers333 Nope. I doubt it. You should be okay. Congrats!
I just started the appeals thread - “USC Appeals - Class of 2022”
http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/2067172-usc-appeals-class-of-2022.html#latest
Okay thank you so much! I think I just needed to hear it from someone other than my parents
@chrys1 I would take the perspective of someone that has sent multiple kids to USC over someone that doesn’t live there nor has sent a kid to school there. A lot of posters will act like experts, but have no experience with the school. Also people that don’t have a kid in college tend to be over fearful. The neighborhood was no concern to my students, they laughed at my concerns. You grow up and get out out of suburbia or whichever little bubble you come from. It’s a city, you learn how to live in a city. And once you see this campus you will wonder what everyone is talking about. There is a reason thousands and thousands apply. And let’s see, govenors and celebrities and dignitaries send their kids there, I have a feeling it’s alright. It’s an outdated stereotype. Ironically, UCLA reports more crimes than USC, you can see that on many college safety reports. Momma’s worry, but kids don’t think anything of it. And I didn’t worry about it either once I sent my first to USC. Now Yale, that one I worried about. Actually, no, students learn to navigate there as well and after a month, not a big deal. Can you imagine actually not going to one of the best schools in the country because other people told you to be scared of a neighborhood? Go see for yourself.
@996611momma There is a thread for spring admits, I am sure a lot of spring admits are scratching their head this morning and it would be good to share.
