@egghead8 mine had admission decision, “enroll commitment deposit” and other tabs on the loading screen
@Nomorelurker It would seem then that you clearly fall into the category of someone with the personal experience of having visited USC and/or its area.
My point generally or my main recommendation is for all admitted applicants to visit USC and/or any college or university that they plan to attend in-person before actually committing. If that is simply impossible to do… view pics and videos of the campus & its surrounding area, talk to current or past students and/or their parents or faculty or administrators - i.e. - people who have actually been there and experienced things first hand… & by all means do whatever you can to make the decision a personal one that is subject to your own research. I simply believe that it would be a mistake to oversimplify things based on a few random posts or via the generally faulty perception spread by those that may have not even been there and experienced it first hand.
But believe me… I am a father of daughters. I drove them around the area carefully and extensively… pointing out boundaries, areas to avoid, areas that I perceived to be safe and well-monitored, the best pathways to walk on foot or to avoid, etc. I made sure they knew DPS boundaries and protocols and how to use Campus Cruisers and free Uber/Lyft rides, etc. They likely thought I was being super ridiculous… but better safe than sorry If you use common sense and are aware of your surroundings, USC and its neighborhood is a great place to attend college. If not… the area around USC - especially beyond the DPS patrolled zone… like the areas around JHU, Yale, Penn, etc (or most urban universities)… can be unforgiving and a bit sketchy.
@CADREAMIN Indeed. Thank goodness CC is not a drinking game related to repeated questions. Chug, chug and 1000s more…
rejected of course! off to my state school! I will always remember high school as the four years of my life that I had sleepless nights, mental breakdowns, no social life, no sleep, no fun… and for it all to be for nothing. I could’ve done the bare minimum and still be at the same place I am right now, headed off to my state school, haha! :)))
@firstgen2022 Totally hear you - so many feel that way after waves of results from various schools. There’s a lot of vun and great things to be done at the many many fantastic state schools in the U. S. - and think of the money you will save!
I would respectfully disagree with the comments on safety here as well. I think Nomorelurker hits the nail on head regarding safety. Anyone who would take thirty minutes to research the past safety history at USC would see there are serious issues around that campus. To take Niche’s word on campus safety about schools around the country is simply naive.
I know someone who worked as an executive at one of the USC graduate schools. When I spoke with him earlier this year about my S’s interest in USC he commented that he would never send his kids there because of safety concerns. Years of being on the e-mail thread every time there was a public safety issue turned him off.
There is no doubt that the campus is fairly safe but it is on lock down at night for a reason. You don’t see any of the UCs have to go to that length to keep their students safe. It is not the campus safety that concerns folks, it is the surrounding area that students live at as upper division students that is the problem. Theft, harassment and assault are big issues. USC is on par with UPENN for a poor safety record.
Hey I’ve been lurking on this thread since I started freaking out in January and decided to post now that decisions are out. First, thank u @CADREAMIN and @WWWard for being a calming presence during this hellish process. Secondly…
ACCEPTED!!! Spring admit. Absolutely never saw this coming.
I applied screenwriting in SCA as my first choice, got accepted to English in Dornsife as my second choice.
3.4 GPA UW, 3.6 GPA W. 31 ACT. Suffice to say I was not expecting to get in at all, let alone to a major that was not talent based.
I’m not going to delve into details on my ECs or Essays or anything, but I wanted to post so that if there is anyone next year who loves USC and has lower-end stats, there is still a chance!
It’s been a wild ride friends.
@CADREAMIN @WWWard, If my DD submits Intent to Enroll for Spring 2019 now, to be on the waitlist, hoping to get into Fall 2018, can she accept admission offer at another university also?
I was unable to find @CADREAMIN created link for Spring 2019 admits, could someone paste that link again please? Thank you.
Also if anyone knows if there is a spring admit thread? Or one from past years? I don’t know much about it and want to do some research.
I was accepted for the Spring term. I am thankful for my acceptance, but nevertheless upset about not starting in the fall. Does anyone know the statistics of how many students first selected for the spring admit get transferred to the fall after May 1st? Even if I dont get transferred to the fall semester, is my only option going to another school for that semester?
Just as a reference for next year, acceptance packages CAN be tracked. Maybe not all, but some. Friday night, a priority mail package from USC popped up in my USPS Informed Delivery. For a second, I thought it was a rejection because that’s what people on here were saying-- trackable = rejection. But my acceptance package came on Saturday.
accepted!
SAT: 1550
ACT: 35
exceptional common app essay, fairly decent supplements
uw gpa: 4.0
3 rec letters that i assume we’re very good, a lot of service hours concentrated in a fewer amount of ECs
accepted to umich, BU, BC, UNC, WashU
waitlisted to tulane, lehigh, rice, georgia tech
@keroWACKEDout you’re welcome… and congrats!
@bsmdint I would expect you can do both… as USC likely expects its Spring admits to enroll somewhere for the Fall to earn credits. I would just read the language of any commitment. But clearly people transfer all the time… and further… I suspect that many Spring admits still try to earn credits before then to stay on course for graduation.
Here is the link to the Spring Admits thread…
@doglover1960, congrats on your acceptance to USC. You have provided an example of just how unpredictable the whole college admission process can be. S who has slightly lower stats than you but many strong ECs, was also accepted to USC but was waitlisted at WashU (while you were accepted at WashU) but he was accepted to Tulane with Honors (whereas you posted that you were waitlisted). You got into GA Tech and he got into UGA Honors, both strong state public universities in Georgia. While I suspect you had different areas of interest in terms of major, it can really be hit and miss with how colleges sort through their acceptances, waitlists, and so forth. In any case, you both have some great options but perhaps you will both end up as Trojans!
Damn, I had similar stats to @keroWACKEDout (except for higher test scores and a higher WGPA), but honestly had I applied undeclared, I may have gotten accepted.
@gurodriguesl, congrats on your Presidential. There is another thread where other Presidential recipients and Trustees have been sharing some of their thoughts, as well as commiserating during the wait for portals to update. S also got Presidential but is waiting on financial aid on March 27th before we make a final decision. In case you are interested, the thread is called: “USC 2018 Class of 2022 Trustee and Presidential Award Notices”. "Who knows, maybe we’ll all end up at McCarthy in August!
F*** USC man, I have grades way above their averages, SAT way above their average, flew from New York to tour and even got a separate meeting when their admission guy came out here. Plus, the club lax coach wrote me a recommendation. I have good ecs and my essays were great. I wrote them a letter saying how much I would enjoy going to USC and how it was my first choice even with Cornell offering better education for 17k less per year. What else am i supposed to do?
NOOOOOOOO CRASSHHHEEDDDDDDD
still crashinggg arghhhh
