Does anyone know any appeal threads. I am pretty upset. White female, 35 ACT, 3.95wt GPA at rigorous college prep school, idk uw GPA, rejected from Marshall and no TTP offered. Also does anyone know how many they offer TTP to? Some medical problems that seriously impacted my life began freshman year. I had to give up the sport that I loved and all other sports. I had to spend a lot of time at doctor’s appointments after and during school. I missed close to 20 days of school each year bc of my medical issues and still kept my grades up. My school doesn’t offer many ECs that aren’t sports. I did do business club and volunteer work though. The other ECs I was interested in doing were either not attainable bc of too big of time commitment for me with missing so much and having doctor’s appointments or I was rejected for not having enough ECs even though my school knows my situation. I am really bummed and it’s hard not to feel like I am just not getting a fair shot. I feel like nothing has gone my way these past 4 years. I haven’t been accepted to any schools I could see myself at. I also wrote my common app on all this, so they knew my situation. Sorry if I sound whiny or full of self-pity, but I just don’t know what to do.
NOOOOOOOO CRASSHHHEEDDDDDDD
still crashinggg arghhhh

Thank you @WWWard
@sleepyeyed2, I think your assessment of USC safety and sports programs is unfair. As I stated in my post, I believe USC is in a marginal area but for the most part is safe and they do a great job of keeping students safe. Last summer I felt less safe walking around Cal Berkeley during the day with my son, was hit up by several indigents, walked by multiple people talking or yelling to themselves and then at us, and so on. Just a block from student dorms off Telegraph Ave were many homeless folks setting up camp. There were other things that S didn’t like about Cal that ruled it out though.
Not sure that USC is the “most expensive university” but it no doubt is right up there in cost with some of the costly universities. However, they do have a generous merit program that reduces costs for many students and hopefully a fair financial aid program (which we are still waiting on to hear from). Also you do get something for what you pay at USC that may not be as desirable at UCLA, including smaller classes than UCLA, and significantly more flexibility to change majors, double major or minor in different areas. UCLA has some benefits cost wise to be sure.
However, don’t be fooled into thinking that there is no crime in or near UCLA. Many UCLA students rent in the Palms area which has had crime, gang issues and shootings. Westwood is also not immune to crime. I remember in the late eighties or early nineties when a gang shooting changed the Westwood image for years. It has rebounded but it is not crime free. It is true though that some upper division students at USC who choose to live near USC, as you suggest, need to be equally vigilant as there can be some concerns. As far as sports programs, many college football programs have gotten away with worse and were slapped on the wrist (think Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State).
@WWWard, yes I do have experience with living and traveling around Los Angeles, as well as many visits to the USC campus over the years. I agree with you that it is generally safe, but students (sons and daughters) need to be realistic about where it is safe and what the boundaries might be. I recently visited at ExploreUSC a few weeks ago and spent one night at the Raddison Hotel with my son. Rather than pay for a $25 breakfast, I decided to grab a cheaper breakfast at Jack in the Box on Figueroa. I could have walked the few blocks (in the direction of downtown L.A.) but decided instead to drive. While I think it would have been relatively safe, I saw some indigents along the way including at a donut shop across from Jack. I ended up popping in the donut shop to grab a donut for my son and donated a dollar to a fellow outside who was down on his luck. However, I agree that would not be the best place for your daughter(s) to frequent!
anyone else get a rejection letter that mentions “your strong ties to the Trojan family” and then stuff about transferring? Is it because I’m a legacy?
@bsmdint you’re welcome
@kellyc18 I got it. It’s the Trojan Transfer Plan. There’s a whole thread about it that explains it. I know a lot of legacy’s get it, including me, but I’m not sure if JUST legacy’s get it.
cannot apprehead this: too good for USC? wondering why they donnot offer you a fellowship.
Rejected from engineering with 36 act, 1570 sat, 4.0 uw, and 4.9 w. Mildly amused since I got into MIT, Caltech, and UCBerkeley earlier.
Regardless, as others have been saying, if you got rejected don’t take it too harshly; all schools have their individual merits and I’m sure you’ll find your place somewhere great! For those who were accepted: congrats!!! Best wishes to everyone as they make their college decisions.
@frozenbighead Duuuude. I got into Viterbi and got rejected at every single one of those schools! I wouldn’t be too disappointed at all! Those are awesome stats! I’d say maybe the AdCom thought you wouldn’t be perfect fit for USC, but I’ll bet you’ll be perfect at any of those!
One final data point for future applicants who try to read the “tea leaves” for admission decisions a year from now. My D and her friend applied to USC from the Atlanta suburbs. Both families had Informed Delivery at the USPS. No packages or “mailpieces” showed up in USPS ID from USC or LA. Both kids were rejected. So, for us, ID was useless.
I think the most important thing re:safety is knowing your own kid. I grew up in and around Los Angeles; went to USC and worked at USC. I was aware of what to do/what not to do. If you have a kid who isn’t aware of his/her surroundings, personally I don’t think USC is the place for that kid. Yes; the campus itself may be safe, but around the campus is absolutely not, no matter how much PR USC (or some of the people on this board) put out there. Your son or daughter will likely not live on campus all four years, may drink or smoke pot and have decreased inhibitions, or generally venture off campus at some point.
So, know your kid and know your own comfort level. Don’t go in blind.
I was rejected and I am absolutely crushed. USC was my dream school and I applied for the film production major. Is anyone else who got rejected planning on appealing? Maybe we could start a thread for that or something
To anyone interested: there’s a FB page && group that’s named Trojan Transfer Plan Class of 2022 if you want to connect and talk to fellow people who received TTP
Yes anyone who received TTP (Trojan Transfer Plan) there are a group of us on Facebook ^^
“Trojan Transfer Plan Class of 2022”
@amominaz. Generally agree with your assessment although I don’t think your comment is only true for USC. If a student is generally not aware of their surroundings due to excess alcohol or drugs, they may find themselves in difficulty at any university or location. For more on safety and location at USC, see the thread called “USC Location”. There are various views posted about potential concerns or issues to be aware of.
Rejected
applied to roski design major
SAT: 1560
GPA: 3.7 UW
ECs: just ok
portfolio: pretty bad, i procrastinated and ended up submitting some haphazard pencil sketches
I guess you could say I saw this coming. The record 13% acceptance rate this year makes me feel a bit better. And I’m sure Roski was even lower. Congrats to everyone accepted and to everyone rejected like me, stay strong! We got this <3
Rejected lmao
Why does USC even make you download a rejection letter. Ew. Applied to Psych major
SAT 1420
GPA 4.3 W
EC’s: pretty good
I guess that was unexpected. Well, I wasn’t going to attend USC either lol since a school better in my major already accepted me.
