USC Class of 2022

Just submitted my application to Iovine and Young Academy!!! Super excited  good luck to everyone

@KAMmom Yes, if you do not get a package you did not get a scholarship and you wait till March. They send out an email within a couple days after scholarship packages are received that says, “no scholarship for you, but you are still in the running and will hear by April 1.” So you do know if you get a scholarship or not pretty quickly. But they do want the kids to experience the “mailbox surprise” which, while old school, is pretty fab if you are one of the lucky ones that gets the magical package. Same in March - it is like one of those commercials where the kid opens the mailbox and starts screaming. On the other hand, there are a lot of other kids (about 84% of those that apply which is more than 47,000 students) waiting what seems like an eternity everyday for their mail to come, and unfortunately the package doesn’t come.

The scholarship delivery week is brutal on here. There will be hundreds of posts when those things head out the door of USC. Then in March the flood gates open on CC with anxious kids and parents. It is a brutal time and wait!

We went through this at our house 4 times in last 6 years. Me tired.

@CADREAMIN I’ll bet, after 4 times! Thanks for the detailed info. Good to know how it works so my d will be prepared.

@KAMmom my daughter got scholarships without going through the interview process. She is in Thornton, so the process might be very different there. Thornton applicants all have to apply by December 1. If they audition in January, they are eligible for academic scholarships. A couple of days after my daughter got her USC envelope, she got a small scholarship from Thornton. She called the financial aid office and was told that big scholarships were given to students that were interviewed in February. We thought that was the end of USC for us and she was heading to Rice who gave her a generous package. Then one day later we learned that she got the trustee scholarship.

Wow @ChenXiaoYun that’s exciting! Thanks for sharing. Did your daughter end up choosing USC, and if so, how does she like it?

@saxynerd hey, me too (about the major)! Where are you from?

@KAMmom Yes, she is attending USC right now. It was her top choice. She also got into Rice, Cleveland Institute of Music, New England Conservatory, and SMU. These are all very nice schools, and they all gave her very generous merit scholarships. She was waitlisted at Juilliard. Soon after she got the USC scholarships, she declined offers from these schools to gave other students the opportunities, and withdrew from Juilliard waitlist. She is very happy at USC right now. She loves her teachers, especially her private teacher of her instrument. She has made many friends within and outside of the music school. There are many interesting events on campus. She only has time to attend a few of them. She is going to Disney Concert Hall tonight and a pop music concert by Thornton Juniors tomorrow night.

I applied to IYA!! SO nervous. USC is my top choice and I am hoping to go there no matter what program (I had such a time choosing which to apply too because they are all so amazing). Good luck to everyone!! Now we wait…

Good luck to everyone! I applied to IYA also but I would be happy just getting into the general school, good luck to everyoneee

@ChenXiaoYun Glad she’s having such a great experience–you must be very proud of her!

i just applied for Media Arts and Practice. Ahh i’m so scared!! this is going to be a long waiting game. good luck to everyone else applying

Fellow USC applicants - My daughter submitted her app on November 30. According to Common App all pieces downloaded. When she looked at the USC portal last night it was showing her supplement hadn’t been received. She received a confirmation e-mail at 2am this morning from USC saying her app was complete. Now she is freaking out that somehow it didn’t get submitted from Common App correctly in time for the December 1 deadline. What type of confirmation did you receive and when did you receive it? TIA

It should be fine. I didn’t receive the email about the application being complete until a day or two after I submitted it.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the youSC portal? It gives me a preapplicant portal and says that “Register for an account using the e-mail address you provided on your Common Application to access a variety of services, including updates to your application status.”

But I used the correct email address on my Common App…?

I haven’t even gotten an email from them to create my student portal account yet. Is that unusual? I just submitted my application last night at around 10:30 ET.

I haven’t gotten a portal email yet either, and I turned in my application around 1:00 pm ET on Dec. 1

@amominaz my d didn’t get her confirmation email from USC until a day or two later.

@amominaz I just checked and she submitted on the 28th and got the email on the 30th. I think you’re fine.

@KAMmom Thank you! That’s good to hear.
