Mine also says I’m a pre-applicant even though I submitted it on Nov 30th. Any luck yet? I can’t find my USC ID either
It’s only been 2 days since the deadline for merit and the suspense is already killing me!
Good luck to everyone else who applied!
Hey guys! Good luck to everyone who has applied for Dec. 1st and to those who are waiting for Jan. apps! I had a quick question. So I applied first choice IYA and second choice SCA Animation & Digital Arts and would be more than happy to get accepted into either one. Is there a potential scenario where I get accepted to USC but not to either of those majors? If so, would I just go in as an undecided major?
Thank you, and cheers to applying! That’s 80% of the work done~
@Aceris I’m not absolutely sure but I am inclined to say no. I do not remember exactly how but I got the impression that by applying to the Viterbi school of Engineering, they would be the ones to decide if I was in or out, it didn’t seem like I could be rejected by the school but accepted to the university.
@Aceris _ have heard if they don’t accept you to your first choice major they will consider the second but at D18 school they have never had anyone accepted to second choice. They were either in to first choice or denied completely.
I think being accepted as an undecided major is extremely unlikely.
Yes, people that appy to SCA or Viterbi or any other program can be accepted as undeclared. The individual school and USC admissions both have advisors reviewing the applications. @WWWard can atest to this.
@Aceris Yes… as @cadreamin suggests, you can be admitted Undeclared. It is actually quite common in fact. My younger daughter was admitted Undeclared in March and has already internally transferred into SCA for the Spring 2018 semester. There were like 50+ freshmen in her summer orientation group that were all Undeclared… and that was just one of many orientation sessions during the summer. While USC overall had an admission rate of 16% for the class of 2021, schools like IYA and SCA have much lower admission rates. If your first and second choice majors are each at such schools, there is that potential prospect of being admitted Undeclared. There are also those who are truly undecided and simply admitted without any current major preference. With USC, you are always evaluated and potentially admitted twice - once by the university overall and once again by the school housing your major. If you agree to enroll as Undeclared, you will be evaluated again as an internal transfer to whichever school you ultimately end up at eventually.
Hi ! I submitted my application to USC on Dec 1 but I haven’t received any confirmation mail with an applicant ID. I applied to Viterbi. So, will I be considered for merit scholarship since I applied on 1st Dec ? And when can I expect the confirmation email from USC ?
I applied for political science, is this a popular major here?
@Aceris yes! if your grades still qualify you you can be admitted as an undecided major!
Does it say somewhere on the portal if we are going to be considered for scholarships?
@collegeapp18 No. The portals can take days or even weeks to update, depending on when you applied and the # of applicants applying at any given time. But the portals will not update to reflect anything related to scholarships until potentially in late Jan / early Feb, when 800-1000 will basically learn that they got in when they learn about merit offerings. All others are carried forward in the process until late March. That is when the vast majority of the 55K+ total applicants learn their fate.
And in general, unless USC changes it longstanding method, you will receive a notice regarding merit scholarships and/or admission via the U.S. Mail prior to the portal updating. USC is very old school.
Good luck…
i haven’t gotten my portal yet for usc should i be worried? i submitted on Dec 1st
I havent got my usc portal neither. I think it takes time. I applied november 30th.
Yeah I applied Dec. 1 and have not gotten the portal access. My friend who applied a while ago said that she got the email “about a week” after she submitted her application and that they took a lot longer than other schools.
My D applied in November, and yesterday we received a letter (dated 12/1) from Viterbi letting her know that she had met the 12/1 scholarship deadline.
I still have not gotten my portal! I applied Dec 1 at like 9pm. I got the common app verification but nooo word from USC.
@kcheves , did your D also receive an email from “USC Admission”? If so, how far apart are the two letters? My S only received email from USC Admission two days after submission, but hasn’t received anything from Viterbi.
I just recieved my USC portal this morning. I applied to Viterbi but got no email from them, only my USC portal
@bogeyorpar, My D did receive acknowledgment from USC admissions shortly after she submitted her application, which would have been early November. I had assumed that the 12/1 letter from Viterbi was sent to all Engineering applicants that made the 12/1 deadline. We’re in SoCal, which may have resulted in us getting the letter earlier than others.
