@kcheves, oh, you mean a real printed letter? It seems like USC still use snail mail a lot … if it’s sent out 12/1, it should arrive this week.
Yes, Viterbi sent a real printed letter.
Haven’t gotten my portal or a letter from USC yet confirming I made the deadline! But I’m all the way across the country so I figure the letter will take a while to get here.
I’m in southern california and I haven’t gotten an email or letter. I even emailed their admissions people and … no reply
While I guess that it is human nature to panic or worry a bit at this early stage, especially when given the likely long wait until March, it is really unwarranted. That being said… I have seen it repeated yearly - especially here on CC.
Please rest assured though that as long as you submitted everything correctly thru the Common Application portal and at least received their confirmation email, you really do not need to worry about USC’s delay in updating you. Both of my daughters (each also at USC now) applied during the first week of August. In each of their cases, it then took USC until October to reply with their first acknowledgement email and letter. So, it was basically a two month delay. Believe me… they were annoyed then as well with the wait.
But USC then speeds up the notification process thereafter. It is likely though that USC has received 20-25K new online applications during just the last two weeks alone. It understandably then takes time to process such, set up new admission portals and update that many applicants individually.
We can personally attest as a family – that went through this twice – to USC’s ultimate efficiency in all things that will be critical to each of you as applicants. USC eventually was far better at the overall application process and portal updates than every other school that my daughters applied to. And for those fortunate enough to finally attend USC, I can also assure you just how well they handle each of the online functions (orientation, registration, housing, email updates, advisement, financial aid, etc.) that will become critical to your success there.
So… my simple advice is to just chill a bit at this point and give them time No one will fall through the cracks… and each of you will be afforded the personal attention that your application deserves.
And good luck to each of you this cycle…
Fight On!
Well said. ^^^^
So I got my portal a few days ago. I applied on the 30th of November, but no where is there any confirmation that I made the December 1st deadline… I’m certain the Common Application and Supplemental material was submitted on time and correctly, but for some reason this is unclear in the portal… I didn’t get the link to the portal until Wednesday, where they asked me for a pdf version of the common app and writing supplements. Is this normal? How do I know I made the deadline??
Does USC usually ask for the federal tax information form from parents? I got an email today from financial aid to check my portal, and they are requesting this form. It may be due to my family’s special circumstances, but I’m not sure. Can anyone confirm?
Also waiting on USC to upload that I submitted my supplement. I know they have it since they downloaded it from the CA, but it seems that they are behind on updating the portal. Not surprising for a school with so many applicants, though.
What does it mean if I already submitted all my stuff to USC but on the portal it says i need to upload the supps, commonapp, and scores even tho i submitted them on time? is it just lagged?
Has everyone who submitted by Dec. 1 received access to a portal?
@vhsdad Nope, I haven’t gotten access to a portal yet
I just received access to my USC portal today, I got an email from them this morning at 4:53 AM and I applied late in the day on December 1st. Hope that’s helpful.
I submitted on December 1st and I haven’t gotten an email or physical letter, and I live in southern california
@happywaffles My admissions counselor sent me this email when I asked her how long the confirmation email would take (and I just got it yesterday!): “Don’t worry, it can take a little while to get your USC confirmation email (if you’re interested in the specifics, my colleague Tyler-Rose wrote a fantastic blog that breaks down the process from app submission to receipt, as well as next steps for applicants: https://admissionblog.usc.edu/youve-submitted-your-application-whats-next/). As long as you submitted them on or before December 1 in your time zone, you’ll still be considered for merit scholarship.”
got a confirmation email today!
@ChenXiaoYun My son is just applied for dance at USC Kaufman. He wants to double major in dance/health science. GPA 4.64 weighted GPA and 1540 SAT. Good dancer but not the most talented. I cannot find info regarding dance so wonder if you could share how Thorton granted their scholarship. Is it based on music only or did they consider academics as well? Thanks!
Is anyone having trouble logging in the you.usc.edu portal?
im having trouble checking my application status… anyone else?
@prepro986 Yes! Glad it’s not just me!
I just got an email from IYA that they have received my application and are currently reviewing! Good luck everyone. I’m sure it’s taking them a while to confirm cause they probably have a lot of applicants
