@CADREAMIN I think other residential colleges in USC Village opened for freshmen over the summer, not McCarthy. But i am not 100% sure.
@astults12 I’ve been checking my portal every five minutes all day, nothing yet. I know I wouldn’t get a Thornton Scholarship but I am so anxious because I should know about the USC regular school merit scholarship by now. Thank you for all your help though
@astults12 Did you see post #1324 with the letter someone posted?
Where do we register for Explore USC? I can’t find the link
@pinkcactus I just reread my son’s email and it said he is still up for USC merit scholarship, so it looks like they let some people know (maybe Dean’s award) in April. i would send an email.
@CADREAMIN I did see the letter and then I checked my son’s – he got the same one. So I think this means he may still be offered acadenic merit, but it was pretty clear on the Thornton website that they do not give merit awards to Popular Music and Music Industry.
hello! can someone chance me 3.6/3.8 GPA! 1450 SAT amazing extracurriculars and work at a high profile job at the moment for my area. Many internships and took college courses getting A’s in all of them. I also have legacy and my parent used to work at USC. I know this is a reach but i still am hopeful
Ive also done University research and published an abstract
Do they really re review all the applications again before March? Or have they already made decisions and are just reviewing the new ones
@pinkcactus My son is music industry. See my post #1324 and my other earlier one. Thornton is different, even for music industry majors. Thornton needs to wait until all auditions are complete. While music industry majors don’t audition, they’re in the larger Thornton pool. You should get an email like what I posted, but no portal update. Email comes from Thornton admissions. If you don’t get an email in the next day or so, you can contact music admissions.
What is the interview process like for the half tuition presidential scholarship? Also, how easy is it to switch majors at USC? I got admitted for Biological Sciences and would like to switch to a social science (public policy, econ, or urban planning)
@berkeleyboundpls, to register for Explore USC log into you.usc.edu and click on Admitted Student Programs at the top of the page. Next to the My USC tab, click on “my events”.
@CADREAMIN S got his box today and yes the max is still 50% of the flight, capped at $200. @WWWard Thanks I checked SW and it was $420 plus the airport is 90 minutes away, but thanks for the suggestion.
Its a grueling round trip in 2 days, plus the expense so I don’t think S will attend. Do most invitees attend I wonder?
Does anyone know if students who submitted an art portfolio to Roski would have heard about merit money now or are those scholarships in April?
No merit for S18 this time but still hoping he gets admitted in March. Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to those with good news!
@planner03 yes, if they want the 100k or 200k they do.
@pastpower Didn’t get USC scholarship with 35 ACT, 800s on SAT Subject Tests (Math2 and Physics), and nothing but 5s on several AP exams, NM Commended. So I don’t think it was about test scores. Congratulations and good luck to all who received scholarship chances at USC.
^^^ @kcfm71 same question as you…Does anyone know if students who submitted an art portfolio to Roski would have heard about merit money now or are those scholarships in April?
Son’s portal was updated this morning with “you are not being considered for top merit scholarships…”, and we didn’t expect that he would. He applied to SCA for Interactive Game Design (knowing it’s super competitive), and while his grades are decent, they are not spectacular; he is hoping his portfolio and passion for USC are what puts him in the running. He has reached out and connected several times with our region’s admissions counselor, and she recognized his name when he introduced himself to her at the Explore USC Day they hosted here in the fall. Friends whose son was admitted last year said demonstrating commitment can help factor into admission. We are in chilly Minneapolis!
congrats to all who got scholarship nominations!!! i applied for media arts & practice in sca. does anybody know when the decisions for the smaller scholarships come out?
DD got a white box here in HI. Accepted to Viterbi CS with Presidential consideration. It actually is possible to get into Viterbi CS!
Pleasantly surprised after DD’s denial from GT last week.
With the acceptance and the anticipated NMF, doesn’t the 50% tuition come automatic? Do we really need to attend the Explore USC then? It would be great to attend, but tickets from HNL to LAX are considerably more than $200.
Anyhow now we are looking at where we can come up with the other 50% + + to attend USC.
