USC Class of 2022

Hey y’all, I applied to the film school and was wondering if the notification system was different, considering the application process was significantly different

@ccyoung Nope. SCA’s decision/announcement process is the same.

Thanks!

@CADREAMIN
“So please, for your own mental health, be cautious with the date expectations and know only admissions has that info. It gets very tense as the dates get closer to that March 23rd time frame, so mentally, just prepare for the next week, then anything before is a big bonus. Don’t want to prompt any anxiety attacks.” :)) good advice!

So if we get rejected will we get a letter in the mail or will we have to wait for the portal to update? If both, which comes first?

Guys I think decisions are coming out before the 27th… if you go to the financial status page, it says financial information will begin being released March 27th

DD had listed 4 AP Exams/Tests to be taken in Common Application. But now she wants to skip 2 of them after she found out she may not get college credits for them (AP English Lit and AP Macroeconomics). Would that be ok with colleges? OR would college rescind her admission if she skips taking tests listed in the application? This is our first experience with college admission process, so we are worried. Appreciate your help, thanks!

Financial information comes several days and up to a week after decisions roll out. That is how it has always been done. The financial aid info is not with your acceptance package. The week of the 19th has always been the expected target range based on last several years.

@collegebound625

Head back to post #1699. Will repost again, but too soon to do again now, it’s just a few pages back.

@droppedit, agree that GA Tech has it right. Releasing decisions at noon on a Saturday is brilliant!

@CADREAMIN - “fool yourself” HA! Similar to @Nomorelurker , never a dull moment. Our school is doing “Every 15 Minutes” today. It is a school/law enforcement program to keep kids from drinking and driving. DS1 is participating. We are to expect a “notification team” this afternoon. They go all out, wrecked car with students laying all around in full make-up. The ambulance takes one to the hospital. The coroner takes one to the morgue. Respective parents have to go identify their child. Its a “scared straight” experience. So, yeah, I get to be told my son was killed in a car accident this afternoon.

@usma87 That’s harsh! And our local public school does that, too. They also lift a car up with a crane and drop it, so they can show students what the damage would be at a certain speed. They always do it a week before prom.

@JMRome We asked to NOT be parents that had to ID the “body”. Our school’s prom is in about a month.

@WWWard & @CADREAMIN, thanks for all of the information that you two have provided. Wouldn’t be the same thread without you both.

@WWWard you mentioned that one of your daughters applied to SCA and attended undecided before transferring in the fall of '18. Was she confident that she would get in? Did she lobby while there in the first semester? Would she have transferred elsewhere if she didn’t get in? I ask because I could be facing a similar circumstance with my S who is trying to get into Thornton. I don’t think they do Spring admits for his program and I wonder what he will do if he decides to go undecided but isn’t successful transferring the next year? Music is his passion! Thanks.

@winjammer You’re welcome.

Yes… she was surprisingly quite confident. Different posters on CC had also mentioned that the odds tend to be at least a little better once you are already at USC and demonstrating your potential strengths and on-going commitment to SCA. Internal transfers thus have a likely better admit rate percentage-wise than those applying for admission initially as a freshman. In her case though, she actually re-applied even in July befor her first term began. And she was admitted for Spring 2018 during October… so even before SCA saw any of her grades at USC. I guess they could have talked to professors, but no semester grades existed yet. It was thus likely based on her new modified supplements alone.

She turned down a # of top-tier colleges, including Princeton, to attend USC. But there is no escaping SCA standing in film. The prospect of even a chance at SCA loomed larger than all other opportunities. Plus… by attending USC, it also meant sharing a year in college with her sister. Had the internal transfer not worked out, I am not exactly sure what she would have chosen to do. I suspect that she would have stayed at USC though and simply kept re-applying. It took Bryan Singer 3 times to make it into SCA. Persistence can thus be rewarded.

I have to admit though that I was urging her to attend USC too. And I was confident that SCA would eventually be her solution. I suspect that my confidence rubbed off on her as well. Thankfully, it all worked out.

Thornton seems like a great program… and I know that USC is a great university. I would do some similar research regarding the likelihood of internally transferring into Thornton as an undeclared student and then judge your options thereafter.

Good Luck…

so i know USC is a long shot for me with such a low SAT of 1170, and gpa of 3.86 but I do have pretty good EC’s and personal statement, and common all essay. along with that I sent in an extra packet of information including recommendations from alumni. would you say I even have a chance or will that SAT score kill it?

Sorry to be a little late, but what is the projected date the portal will get updated with admission’s decisions

@WWWard my daughter’s stats are 4.0 gpa and 1330 sat and she is applying for Bio, do u think she has a chance to get in? Thank you

@pinecoll0531 I suggest reading Post #1699 from @CADREAMIN for a lot of good information. Though there’s no set date or time, based on past experience, the portal will be updated the third midnight after decisions are mailed out. Last year, decisions were mailed March 23 and the portal was updated March 26 (according to the tweet from the admissions office). Again, this is all a guess. Good luck!

If i get rejected by boston college, northeastern, and uc davis, should my hopes of usc be scratched off?
