USC Class of 2022

Got denied from BU today. There’s no way I’m getting into USC. I won’t even have to worry about checking my portal or mailbox.

If packages are sent the 22nd, will the portal be updated that same day too? Just asking bc I’m going to be out of town when the packages are sent!

The portal is updated 3 days after they mail out decisions usually @eemmma

the portal updates on the 25th @eemmma

No need to lose hope. I know students were rejected by BU but accepted by SC for the same majors.

@eemmma look at long post above yours all the info is there.

@kuhlm44937 You never know. I have classmates who were admitted to Ivies and denied or waitlisted at schools that were supposed to be “safeties.” Hang in there.

I dont think im gonna be admitted and if im lucky, probably spring semester. My first semester (9-11) collective record has really screwed me over (only 2 As out of 13 total grades, 3.07 GPA UW) while my 2nd sem has been comparably day and night (3.84 GPA 11 As out of 13). My senior yr was my best year grades wise period. I do have a 33 ACT and I applied with an unimpacted major. My essays were pretty solid and seemed to have a direction of what I wanted to do. My counselors letter of rec is good because she knows me really well through all of the mini side convos we have when discussing schedules and grades. Im hoping for spring semester

@jj1999 Did you apply to spring semester?

Some people are admitted to spring, they didn’t apply for it. Being admitted to spring doesn’t imply lower score, it means you have the scores to get in but the school or major has enough admits already.

I guess i should just be ready to take the L then…

All because I had to get sick before first sem junior finals and walking out with 4 Bs when I walked in with 3 As and a B…

I’m! so! nervous! I feel like I have NO chance after being denied from WashU… My stats are decent (34 act, 4.0 uw gpa, 4.22, w gpa, class rank1) but my essays were SOooOOoO bad! I was banking on usc as the only oos school I could afford due to the NMF 1/2 tuition scholarship but 13% acc rate!!! ughglhalsa;

When do decisions come out? Is it the 24th?

Does anyone know if Chemistry is impacted or capped?

@wigrlpwr I feel like my S18 has a lot in common with you! Also NMF from WI high school that basically just sends top grads to UW, no clue how to help kids go OOS, especially to reach OOS programs. S also denied WashU (and Stanford REA). Waiting on USC — and really really hoping—but if it doesn’t work out, he’s made his peace with attending U Minnesota (as he absolutely refused to apply to Madison. Too close to home.)

Good luck!

@candylover132 Please read Post #1832 for info. And good luck!

So this is all just my thinking and may be completely off base, and if so I apologize. After getting rejected from UCLA I did a lot of thinking. The UC application in a way is less personalized than the Common App. While there are supplements, they don’t allow you to go as in depth as the Common App Essay and its supplements do. At some point admission to UCLA gets down to luck, since sooo many people applied and sooo many people have similar tests scores, grades, and extracurricular commitment as me. Looking back, my USC application is much stronger than my UC app. I have such a great relationship with the teachers who wrote my recommendations, I’m incredibly proud of my USC supplements, which thoroughly illustrate my passion for USC and medicine. I feel like the application as a whole provides a better picture of who I am and how I will fit on campus. So I still think I might have a shot at USC.

TLDR; Don’t give up on USC just because you didn’t get into UCLA or any other school. Each application highlights different things about you and anything is possible!

Does USC put a lot of stock into your first semester senior grades? If not, then I’m screwed cause they were the best grades I’ve earned (with 4 APs too), while my collective first semester GPA (UW, from 9-11) has been a 3.07 with me only earning 2 A’s out of 13 possible grades. Comparably to my second semester record ((UW, 9-11), it has been day and night (3.84, 11 A’s, 2 B’s). Will this trend affect me at all? Or will my terrible first semester grades bring me down ultimately? During 9th grade, my school gradebook online didn’t let me log on, so I couldn’t see my grades or keep track until finals, when all of them were at a low B (83 or below) (I later found out that the tech department inputted my email name incorrectly by one number). During 11th grade, I walked into finals with 3 A’s and a B and walked out with all B’s. This was because I had the flu and couldn’t study through it, so my grades dropped below the rounding cutoff. This caused my mother to lash out at me which sparked a period of depression that had gone to the point where if I ate ANYTHING, I wouldn’t be able to keep it down, or if I had tried to wake up, I physically wasn’t able to get out of my bed. I took care of my health 2nd semester, no thanks to my mother, and was able to avoid losing my grades to the final exams, (except AP chemistry, taking that was a mistake)…

I got rejected from my first choice major (Iovine and Young) in February but my second choice major was undecided in Dornsife. Does anyone know if that is an impacted major? No, right?
