USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

@gijung we are in Portland Oregon and since my son is a Thornton applicant, we are able to see the package in my informed delivery email.

@WWWard Thanks for that additional detail! My DS has amazing ECā€™s, Eagle Scout, Boys State, School Ambassador, Founded a Real Estate Club, Varsity Athlete - Selected All City, COO of Virtual Business program, Musician, etc etc. His ACT was on the low end with 29 (although 33 Reading, darn science!) Also, heā€™s a double legacy. He also had impressive letters of rec. But, no guarantees these days. Now heā€™s just hoping for TTP.

@liaaa we live in tri valley area :slight_smile:

Thanks to @WWWard and @CADREAMIN for your endless hours of support. I went through the process last year. My son was an RHP applicant and was not accepted. I wouldnā€™t have been able to get through it without your help. Iā€™m happy to report that we saw the USC package showing up in my informed delivery!

@LisaLisa24 , @pdxtigermom youā€™re welcome

Congrats to all those getting in todayā€¦ on Day Two. Whether a package arrives by today or not (with your regular mail delivery), the good news is that the wait will be over soonā€¦ as the admissions portals update today at 5pm pacific. Good luckā€¦

nothing in Washington, Seattle area yet. expecting to check portal first.

@Burrowsc
1450 SAT, 4.2 GPA, which is high for my realy small school
5 APs
Treasurer of three clubs and senior class
A lot of community service
Varsity track and soccer all four years

showing 0 packages in informed delivery, this means donā€™t expect acceptance I guess?

A re-post, but hopefully it helps those not receiving the news that they were hoping forā€¦

Unfortunately, rejection does come along in life. Itā€™s what you do next that matters most. Steven Spielberg desperately wanted to attend USC SCAā€¦ so much so that he tried three times to gain admission. He was rejected all three times. And now there is a building bearing his name within the SCA complex. Bryan Singer tried and was rejected by USC and SCA. He tried a second time and got into USC but again not into SCA. He then succeeded as an internal transfer on his third try. Persistence can also pay off.

Many have faced rejection to their dream schools. In my day, for meā€¦ it was Harvardā€¦ and Harvard saw it differently. Harvard also rejected Dr. Harold Varmus twice. He simply went on to win a Nobel Prize in Medicine. Harvard also rejected Warren Buffet. They surely would like a do-over on that one. Every year around this time, it is important to remember that rejections need not control our lives. And with the way that things have evolvedā€¦ with the Common Application making it far too common for high school seniors to apply to 10+, 15+ or even 20+ schools, those rejections are bound to add up. My older daughter was rejected by 12 out of 17 in 2014. But these rejection letters are not true assessments of student aptitude or ability or the quality of an application. They are simply the natural evolution of a cruel #s game. USC could clearly admit tens of thousands of quality applicants this year. They are instead stuck with the arduous, unwelcome and nearly impossible task of only picking 7300 or so out of a field of nearly 67K. They will even have to reluctantly disappoint 90% of all legacy applicants.

As Warren Buffet says in the article linked below: ā€œThe truth is that everything that has happened in my lifeā€¦that I thought was a crushing defeat at the time, has turned out for the better. A temporary defeat is not a permanent one. In the end it can be an opportunity.ā€

To all of you active on CC or just following along without postingā€¦ good wishes and the best of luck getting in. If you do not get into USC, hopefully you will find your place at another great option. But clearly some will face disappointment. Some will not gain admission into their dream school. I wish it could be otherwise.

Hereā€™s a link to an excellent article on the subject of those who went on to great success after facing such a similar set-back as aspirational high school seniors aiming for that dream school scenarioā€¦

Good Luckā€¦

@collegerigged no it doesnā€™t mean that; i got the package but didnā€™t have anything show up on informed delivery

usc knows that people have informed delivery so they disable tracking on the acceptance boxes

Mail came, but no white box. Long Island

@Matt10121 Oh wow, weā€™re right around the same. 1460 SAT, 4.21 GPA, 10 APs, a lot of community service, varsity athlete four years and captain of tennis team. Also from a pretty small high school in PA.

I think I think something that gave me an edge is that my school is super small and noncompetitve, so my effort probably stood out. And we also have like four APs so this year I took some individually online which all of my interviewers have told me is something colleges love to see

Lots of locations reporting today! Not as many Norcalā€™s yet, but they should roll in, itā€™s just 10:00am here.

Just to clarify, TTP is on the rejection letter. It is not offered to everyone.

The only people seeing it on informed delivery are a few Thornton applicants. I get the how insanely stressful it is, but Iā€™m hoping the kids arenā€™t seeing it there. How sad it is to find out that way! The mailbox moment is how this is intended and is spectacular!

Patience people, the agony will all end today anyway!

Mail came. No box. New Haven County, CT. In the 2 day delivery zone on map.

And so glad that they are doing the portal updates at 5pm pacific / 8pm eastern. Those midnight / 3am updates were extra brutal. But be patientā€¦ tens of thousands of simultaneous log-in attempts can lead to delays in terms of getting in.

@Matt10121 Yeah same here! Our school didnā€™t offer AP Econ so I did courses through coursera.

Current TTP-er here, everyone! Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Do the white boxes fit in the mailbox?
