@Momofseveral10 You can also email your assigned overall admissions counselor. In our case, in 2017, he also confirmed that it is much easier to internally transfer into any school and program as a current student vs trying to do so from outside USC or as a freshman applicant. Good luck.
For those admitted⊠step one this week should really be Housing sign-up.
I would go ahead and post a housing depositâŠ

Even if you are not 100% certain about committing to USC, it is worth the $55 or so housing deposit to secure your spot in line. Its the best way to get preferential housing assignments. And you can even do so without paying the overall commitment deposit to enroll at USC.
The actual best way to get exactly what you want⊠or at least one of your top two choices⊠is to locate a roommate (CC or facebook, etc. is a good starting place) and then select each other and match your preferences (1-5, etc.) exactly the same. By doing so, you make the housing officeâs job super-easy, as they can match you two and accommodate the goals of two freshmen simultaneously. They also go with whichever of you had the higher preferential order in terms of signing up.
Anyone know for certain when the financial aid offers are coming out???
Certain, no, but suspect Wed-Friday this week is the usual playâŠThey usually start 3-4 days after admits are out then roll for awhile.
@h2j438fr3ns You donât have to specify a roommate when you first sign up. The signup gets you in the queue. You di give a list of housing, but you can change that list and the roommate selections up until around May 1. When you do the housing signup, you also fill out a survey. After you sign up, the system will give you roommate suggestions based on your survey and housing selections. You can then contact them if you are interested. Once you decide on a roommate, you just have to ensure that you and roommate have identical choices on your housing list. The assignment is based on the earlier of the roommatesâ signup times. You can review all the housing on the USC Housing website to see the room configurations. Iâm sure there are other places where you can get an idea of what each dorm is like from a social perspective as well.
@Momofthreedogs @CollegeOdyssey2001 Iâll add that the USC TE acceptance rate has always showed that lower number but it has seemed in the past that everyone that got accepted to the University got it. Good luck to your children and let everyone know your outcome in case the landscape has changed.
I havenât received an email with my housing ID # yet, so Im not able to put the deposit down - has anyone received the housing email yet??
The housing portal says that due to some difficulty, it wonât be open until Friday. Info will go out Thursday
@ccagwc should just be your USC ID
Mother of twins here reporting mixed results yesterday. After refreshing this thread most of the day for reports that merit scholarships were out, I finally gave up at 7pm and went to my scheduled dinner date, leaving kids home alone. Came home around 10:30pm. Daughter beaming. She got âbumped upâ from Presidential to Trustee scholar!!! And USC Viterbi-CS has been her first choice since we went to Explore USC for scholarship weekend. So great news there, and she is set and completely over the moon (unless something miraculous occurs at scholarship weekend at WUSTL this weekend).
Look over to my son, he is quiet in the corner. âI got dreck,â he says. Uh-oh. Dreck, I wondered? I figured this meant zero. I guess those are the odds, with 60% merit success rate. I warned both kids earlier in the day that one may get it, the other may not with those odds. âI got bumped down to Deanâs,â he replies (from Presidential). At this point, although it is a disappointment, I already had an inkling about this since Explore weekend. The Dornsife candidates are the largest in number by far (and stayed in the auditorium for their breakout session), and many other students there indicated his same major in Soc Sci/Humanities. So I knew it was going to be tough since awards are done by major. He has no âhookâ and is interested in pursuing a course of study that is seen as a âdying field.â In light of all this, I was elated that he got Deanâs. And did my best to pick him up, but it was tough. I know this may sound like tiny violins in light of the many outstanding candidates denied admission outright, but I felt so badânot able to show my true excitement for D19, and not able to comfort S19 that he had somehow messed up. And that when this monumental news came in, no parent was home to help them process it.
Anyhoo, fingers crossed for how the rest of this all plays out, esp. with TE outstanding. As Iâve been repeating to myself, the best outcome may not be the one you originally imagined. And thanks @Dolemite for sharing your TE wisdom and experience. Iâll be sure to pass on what we find out.
Congrats to all awardees and admittees! USC is so awesome. Hoping to send both twins there stillâŠstay tuned.
Where do we find the 10 digit USC ID number? Is that something that is on the portal? Also, have all the deans scholarships been given out or are we still waiting on that? This year RHP kids donât automatically receive the deans and National Merit will only start from year 2 so we were really hoping for deans for year 1.
@sonsav It would have been emailed to you early on. If you applied for financial aid, it is on the banner of your FAST page when you log-in. If you still cannot find it, you can always call admissions and retrieve it from themâŠ
@WWWard Thank you!! Also, since my D is skipping senior year we are wondering if she needs to take the SAT subject tests? Do you know if subject tests are used for placement in college classes at all or itâs just for admissions? Sorry she is our oldest so we are a bit confused with the importance of now taking the subject tests.
@sonsav youâre welcome. In my opinion and our experience, subject tests are not necessary. Neither of my daughters (both who went to USC) took any. Unless you place out of certain courses via AP, the order of courses is pretty much set. If subject tests have any affect, I am not aware of such.
If you are a Presidential Scholarship recipient, are you bound to stay with the major on which you were admitted to the school? Do you lose your scholarship if you decide to switch your major down the road?
@lkbux64 Nope. Many switch.
The major doesnât completely drive the scholarship, it starts with what the student is given and when bumped down, itâs 100% due to the interview. And ya, I hear an entire orchestra of tiny violinsâŠ
@sonsav - Only AP tests are used for placement and credit. Subject tests not at all.
Thanks @WWWard! I have been following this thread and relying on your wisdom (and @CADREAMIN) for a few months since my son applied to USC. Funny how I (mistakenly) thought that all of my questions would go away once the admission decision came in!
I agree that you should put your housing deposit down when the housing portal opens if youâre ok forfeiting the $55 should you decide not to attend USC. Iâll go a step further-if you received a scholarship you should have been able to put down a deposit in February. If you are still able to, I would put your deposit down before it opens up to everyone.
My D went random with her roommate and they get along great.
