USC class of 2023 Applicants Thread

Wait guys, I just realized that I have not received the portal from USC… is it normal??? Is there any chance I did not finish my application? the CA says I did…

USC will post to Twitter when mail trucks leave with packages. Expect that around March 20-22nd based on previous years.

Quickly opens twitter and follows USC Admission …

Other schools are asking for additional financial aid type documents to complete our application. No such request from USC. Is that a bad sign that the student is not being considered for admission so kind of like why bother following up with financial aid requests?

USC and a couple other schools requested me to submit additional financial aid documents, but the rest of my schools did not… so I’m curious about this as well

Anyone know when final notification of scholarship amount comes out for the Presidential finalists?

Are decisions arriving the 22nd or being mailed out the 22nd

Supposed to be mailed 22nd with portal updates on 25th

@blankcollege Sorry… I do not have any info about the architecture program there at USC.

@Anxiousmomof3 You’re welcome. I guess you can let us all know this cycle. Or maybe search CC & other sites for “SDA invitation” and see if anything turns up. and @anxiety247 FinAid requests or the lack there of means zilch. No connection. They are completely separate.

@SlimJim005 You’re welcome. Hopefully it will. Good Luck…

@Anxiousmomof3 I’m also an SDA applicant and am very curious about this “SDA invitation” as well.
I did a bit of research a couple of months back and here’s a little bit of what I found:

A couple years back each year SDA admitted student received a post card invitation and an RSVP email about a week before official admissions decisions arrived. All students who received this invitation received an acceptance a week later.
Last year, people received the same invitation and email, assuming they had been accepted. But about a week later some of those students received a rejection. It appears that last year the open house invitation was sent to all applicants as opposed to solely those who were accepted.

That being said, I obviously have no idea what the procedure will be this year. Because of this, anyone who receives an open house invitation (if they are sent at all this year), should be wary about blatantly assuming that they will be accepted.

I would say that the best bet is to wait and see if anyone receives an invitation and gauge whether it seemed to be received by all applicants or only a few.

Long post, but hopefully it helps!!

does anyone else still say “preapplicant” for the youSC portal?

Is it possible to be accepted into the University of Southern California as your second choice major? Is this common?

Just got back from USC

Those were last year’s dates.

No one is suggesting these dates with certainty yet for this year. We do not know portal update until mail date is confirmed. It can be dangerous to put this out there until confirmed (either by inside contacts or the mail trucks leaving tweet) - people will plan their life around these dates otherwise - and they are in no way certain yet.

Mail date of packages should/could/oughta be around March 20 - 22 based on the last several years. The arriving in socal next day, a lot of the country day 2 and everyone else day 3 (or later). Portal has updated by time most day 3 people get their package.

Scholarship results updates to portals typically within 24 hours of the mail date of regular admission. Can be day before, day of or day after mailing. Just a few years ago it was the week or several days before regular admission, but last couple years it has pretty much been on or just before mailing of packages.

will financial aid packages/notifications come with the acceptance, or would we find out on a later date?

Just curious … why USC is not one of CC 20 top universities?

FA comes about a week after acceptance usually around April 1st and into that first week of April. Maybe on earlier side this year since they are admitting less and they may be faster??? Longer if they are still missing pieces and have to wait on info from applicant.

So that is the hard part, some get in (yippee!) only to find out later they didn’t get the aid they need to attend. :frowning: But fingers crossed for good news for all!

@singingbear There have been a lot of conspiracy theories on this one. Funny too, because besides its status, it seems (from my unscientific research), that USC is most active college forum on this site - I know in the past we had way more posts and views than even UCLA. (tbh, haven’t looked recently, but I would be surprised if we aren’t at the top or very close to most active university community.) Some people contend CC just doesn’t like USC and never has, I just think they don’t change or update things too often - hardly ever!

Lol actually tho, imo USC should replace Emory from the cc top 20

@een222 Thank you! Very helpful. Either way, I will share here if my son receives any emails. Good Luck to you!!!

Regarding the SDA invitation as an early indicator… if it is true that they invited everyone last cycle and not just those admitted, that is certainly rather cruel… especially given their previous precedent of only inviting those admitted in prior years.

As for USC not being labeled a top university by CC… it just seems to be a long-standing bias. For years, many people (including some CC moderators) just said that is a long-ago created list and to ignore it, but then last year they updated it by simply adding Tulane – and again not adding USC. USC is ranked #22 on the US News College Rankings and even higher on others. Most schools on that list of corresponding high rankings elsewhere. But in the eyes of CC, UMichigan at #27, UNC at #30 and Tulane at #44 all make the list… while USC at #22 does not. Go figure. Maybe the list coordinator is simply a Bruin.

Anyone applied to the WBB program??
