Thornton sends sweatshirt and only to admits - can’t get them in bookstore like the other schools!
Will you be attending the open house this weekend?
We just got an email regarding the separate open house for Roski.
Unless my D gets an email about some merit this week, we won’t be visiting. I was hoping to go to the campus day on April 14. We can’t afford full price so I don’t want to tease her with a great visit! She also got into UCLA for art so we are going there on April 15.
Completely understand! And, of course, UCLA is a fantastic alternative option! Congratulations to your daughter!
No – it will be the same. (My son had an extra charge of I think $700 a year for private lessons in junior and senior year).
And to yours as well! These are good options to have!
If anyone is planning on driving down to Los Angeles this weekend, southbound I-5 near Castaic is reduced from four lanes to two and northbound is reduced to three. All four southbound lanes will be closed Saturday, April 1 from 10 pm - 8 am and Sunday, April 2 from 11 pm - 5 am.
NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC IS REDUCED TO 3 LANES FROM 12 MI NORTH OF SANTA CLARITA TO 3 MI SOUTH OF LIEBRE GULCH (LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO A MUDSLIDE
SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC IS REDUCED TO 2 LANES FROM 6.1 MI SOUTH TO 8 MI SOUTH OF LIEBRE GULCH (LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO A MUDSLIDE
That’s so cool! I’m sure he’ll be excited when he gets home.
The orientation day has both on-site and on-line options. We are on the east coast and wondering Is it worthy to fly all the way for a one-day event? Especially, due to our schedule, we likely need to pick a day in July if on-site, which means a month later we will be back again for move in. Would on-line be enough? What are the main benefits of on-site?
I’m not a USC expert…my son’s a new admit…but it seems to me that if your kid is already committed, the main things to do now are to get even more excited (!) and to do administrative stuff. ETA It would be very hard for me to wait! If it’s feasible it would be a fun trip. Unless you think there could be something that would make your kid change their mind and drop USC. In that case, I would go now.
Explore USC (admitted student day) is for students who are still deciding. Orientation is for students who have already committed.
@uscmom2027 I’m sure others can give better advice. My student started in 2020 when the campus was closed. Everything was virtual. At that time, so much was taken away that we would have paid anything to have an in-person opportunity.
Is spring admit secondary? how did they decide between fall and spring admit?
My son got accepted into USC, Thornton school of music. Waiting for FA decision. Hoping we get full tuition covered since our household income is under 80k. Does anyone have experience in receiving that assistance? If he receives some merit scholarship, how would that work with the affordability initiative?
I agree - my son is in the class of 2025 and they had no in person accepted students day or even orientation, so he missed a lot. At least they did get to go in person although there were so many rules and restrictions that it wasn’t that fun. Your student’s year had it the worst.
Recommend going to in-person orientation if possible. My son had to do the online version because of Covid and it was not a great experience. Your child will meet many people through orientation too that they wouldn’t meet otherwise.
I would always attend orientation if possible and not a strain on family. Kids are split up and have their own day, often meeting other students that become long time friends. They also get a little more comfortable with USC and the area so their first week is easier and they come in with experience. Now whether to pay for the “parent” part of orientation is another thing - I did one year and ended up not attending many of the info sessions because it was stuff online and having an athlete, I was gonna be there a lot, so wasn’t too worried about missing anything. The lunch outside for students and parents was fab tho.
But if I was a parent not that familiar with USC or not going to be there that often, I think the orientation can provide great peace of mind and education for parents too.
I don’t know if they still do registration at orientation - that was the best part and end of the day - they came out with their schedule all set. Mine set it up before they went so it was easy when they met with someone and my student could steer the class sign up, not the other way around (they didn’t tackle GEs first). They may have moved registration all online since covid, idk, every year I am hoping it is again part of orientation.
No answer for you, just saying we’re in a similar situation with Thornton, except with an income of $83,000. Can you believe it? We’ll see soon! Best of luck to you.
Merit replaces need, you don’t get it in addition to tuition need. From there, if any questions on your package def speak with USC FA, they are super helpful and are the only ones with your entire picture. Good luck!
I was “worried” if our income was above 80k or goes above it in the next year or two and it’s hard to find info about that BUt from what I understand and a financial aid advisor told me when I was on campus during auditions that it’s not all or nothing-in other words, you would pay a little tuition for being at a 83k household income for example. If so, that’s a relief! Best wishes to you too!
Can anyone who has a schedule for tomorrow’s Open House tell me what time the last scheduled event is supposed to end?
Thanks!
