USC economics transfer

Hi, im applying this upcoming fall and have a few questions about transferring to USC economics. Ive found the articulation agreement to my CC (DeAnza) and looked at courses i need. I have taken Micro/macro ECon, and am taking Calculus 1 this summer (quarter system). But im confused about foreign language, Do i need to take it at my CC? I have 3 years from my high school.

Thanks

You don't have to take a foreign language at your CC prior to transferring. You will however have to take them at USC if admitted.

so they don't accept the 3 years of foreign language you take at high school?

From my understanding they won't give you any credit unless you take an AP test and even then I don't think that will cover the whole foreign language requirement.

wth
I was always under the presumption that 3 yrs of HS foreign lang. was fine for college

You may be able to test out of it, if admitted.

assuming i cant test out of any language... and have no credit for language when applying from my CC, is it a high chance i will be rejected for Marshall or econ??

marshall doesn't require the foreign language requirement prior to transferring.

nor do i think econ does(although i think because it is under CLAS, the language requirement might apply)

is it true when you apply you put down two majors, (ie i can do Econ and Marshall)? If so how competitive is marshall? THe only pre reqs i see are micro, macro, and calculus, and these are same for econ.

Also, does legacy give any advantage??

thanks

bump bump bump

when you apply as a transfer, they give you an option of two majors to list on your application. If you're applying to Marshall, they say to list it as your first major. So essentially your second major would be econ. if you dont get into marshall you'll be concidered for econ.

The role of legacy is slowly becoming less important, I hear. But I suposse you should note it, if it applies to you.

thanks...
for marshall , are alot of EC's necessary? i have alot of volunteering (hospital, soup kitchen, temple,etc...) but no internships. I tried looking but havent gotten any response yet :(

^^ same question but kinda the opposite...internship/work experience but not much volunteering and i know at least for the UC application there is a spot to list volunteer work

bump for both of us

"A lot" of ECs arn't necessary. Just have a decent resume and you'll be fine.

Realistically I think some ppl totally over-hype the importance of extra curriculars. Yeah they're important, but if you're the President of the All American business club with a 3.3 GPA to show for it then you're probably gonna get rejected by Marshall.

Focus on getting as close to a 4.0 GPA as possible and you'll get in. I know a couple of ppl who got in with 3.6-3.7 GPAs without that many ECs.

Anyone know if Marshall takes precedence on work experience/internships over ECs?

What GPA do you need to apply to the economics department of USC?Is the economics department at USC really good and really hard to get in?
