USC Essay: is this topic OK?

Hello,

I decided to write about this prompt for USC application

"Thomas Edison failed many times before successfully inventing the modern electric light bulb. He said, "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward." Reflect on a challenge you overcame through persistence."

I have two topics in mind. One is about how I broke my habit of biting my nails in order to be a better guitar player, and the other is about how I overcame cultural challenges when I moved to the United States my freshman year. I think the latter seems easier to write with, but I have a feeling that it might be too cliched for an Asian-American like me. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dennis

Oh, one more question… where do I obtain the USC ID?

I don’t see how the first topic really connects to the topic. Even more so w/ the second topic (tho it should be easy to write, ur right).

More details would be useful.

I thought it relates to the prompt because I overcame a challenge… which was that particular habit that I have possessed for more than 5 years.
